Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Wednesday that she was briefed before the release of a controversial intelligence assessment and that she stands by the report, which lists returning veterans among terrorist risks to the U.S.

I think the administration is blind to the facts and should be transparent amongst the First Amendment (Freedom of Speech)

LTC Private RallyPoint Member I remember when this came out. I would like to see an updated threat assessment since Fort Hood. This administration seems to want to look anywhere but the actual threat profile.

So a study is done and a report is issued, and it becomes the administrations fault? Wouldn't a better question be "Do you agree with the report?"
All I see is a click-bait headline, biased reporting, and a series of logical fallacies.

The story posted is quite hot off the presses in 2009, only about six years ago. It seems quite naïve to think that there is no way that military veterans can become involved in organizations and causes which utilize propaganda. In fact if you look at Hitler’s rise it was fueled by disenfranchised military veterans who were attracted to his nationalist rhetoric. I do not believe that their droves of military veterans running off to join right-wing militias who are threatening the federal government, however is the recent attack in Tennessee shows us it only takes one maliciously motivated individual, and is not ridiculous to think that that individual could be a veteran.

The second largest terrorist attack in US history was the Oklahoma city federal building bombing by Timothy McVeigh a veteran of the United States Army, Eric Rudolph the Olympic Park bomber was a US veteran, Wade Michael Page the Sikh temple shooter was US veteran, Frazier Glenn Miller the Kentucky Jewish shooter was a veteran, and Chris Dorner was a veteran. I also wonder how many military veterans were at the Cliven Bundy standoff? I know I saw a great many on the news.

Perhaps the greater question is this: Who is the more significant threat...those who have sworn to and placed their lives in peril towards the defense of the Constitution...or those possessing the power, influence and ideology to subvert it and disregard its legal basis for their own profit?

A quick once over of a lot of threads relating to Fox News, the Oath Keepers, the President, ChemTrails, Transgenders, the Confederate Flag, Jade Helm and other topics make me think it's a solid "maybe". We do seem to have a lot of right wing extremists espousing a great deal of violence...

I've recently come to realist Washington Times isn't a very unbiased or reliable new organization. The problem is that it sounds like it is. It takes two very reputable companies (New York Times and Washington Post) and combines the names to play on your perception that it is a very good, robustly researching, news organization.

That said, no I don't think returning vets are any more of a threat than the average American citizen. There will be a random bad apple every now and then but by no means in any higher percentage than the normal populace, and I would argue probably significantly lower. What could be used to counter my point is that a veteran's training could enable them to be more effective. That probably offsets the higher amount of patriotism among veterans to make it about equal and NOT an issue that should be singled out.
