Are single Soldiers authorized PTDY to move out of barracks?

I'm not finding anything in the regulation that directly addresses this issue. I'm full aware of PCSing to and fro but there is nothing that addresses soldiers who become eligible to move off post. Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure that living off post really falls under the heading of PTDY. In some units (at least in the past) you could get permission to live off post, but not at the Army's expense (i.e..no BAH or separate rats)....which somewhat mimics PTDY, but PTDY usually involves you taking leave or a pass of some kind.

You're speaking of Permissive TDY type leave for the purpose of moving households?

Per AR 600-8-10, PTDY is only authorized for house hunting in conjunction with a PCS per Section XVI, para 5-32.f.(1)-(12) .

The Soldier should put in for a pass if they need the time off. Also, I would like to assume the chain of command would be understanding if a Soldier would need to leave work to go visit a real estate agent or a housing office.

When I was in only staff nco"s and officers could receive housing allowances to live off base as single soldiers

If you want to move out of the barracks as a single enlisted member, you do it at your own expense. At least that was my experience.

Unless you are PCSing you won't get it like SGM Martinez said. I'd you are moving out because you want to take leave. It has been a while for me on AD but last I remember unit's don't like to give passes during the week just over the weekends and which sometimes can be a hindrance. Now if you are moving out because of over crowding the unit may give you a pass for a couple of days during the week to find a place. Keep in mind BAH with or without dependant rate if that is an issue and authorized.
