Are soldiers allowed to wear civilian multicam pants on post when not in Army uniform?

Today I was over at the Fort Sill USAO to use their computers for my SSD1 when I was stopped and promptly dressed down by a sergeant for wearing a pair of multicam pants when I was wearing civilian attire. I believe he was mistaken about the pants themselves, and thought that they were uniform pants, however he did not give me a word in edgeways to explain that they were not. This raised a question in my mind, and after digging through AR670-1, I am unable to find an answer to this and I would like some input from any sergeants, or officers here. Are soldiers allowed to wear civilian "tactical" camo pants when in civilian attire while on post? In my case, for clarification, they were a pair of 511 TDUs in Crye Multicam. If any info from regulations can be added I would much appreciate it, as my platoon sergeant has ok'ed it, and I would like something to back me up should I run across said sergeant again. just in case, TL;DR, are soldiers allowed to wear civilian multicam pants on post when not in army uniform?

Comfortable and cool or not....next time you could draw the ire of a CSM or two. Is that comfort and coolness really worth it, even if they are civilian attire?

Not really.
5.11 TDU multicams look exactly like OCP trousers to everyone who doesn't own a pair of both.
5.11 makes the same pants in every color of the tactical rainbow, pick anything other than multicam and wear those.

f. No part of a prescribed uniform, except those items not exclusively military in character, may be worn with civilian clothing.
g. Uniform items authorized for wear with civilian clothing by males are restricted to the gold cuff links, studs, tie bar, mourning band, footwear, socks, gloves, undergarments, black bow-tie, wool scarf, all-weather coat, fleece caps, and physical training uniforms.
While I understand your pants are not issued, they obviously look like issued pants and I'm sure will continue to be confused for issued gear. Get yourself some real pants and stop looking like a private. You're not high speed enough to be that tacticool.

If you wants to be retro-cool, maybe he can put on some BDU pants. Recently, people were asking can you wear the new APFT uniform to the airport? The simple answer for me as to wear the APFT uniform jacket and sweat bottoms that have been obsolete for the last 2 years. No sergeant major is going to complain about something that is obsolete and no longer being used. I guess you can't go retro and put on the pink and greens because that's coming back in thanks to our last sergeant major of the army. I just remembered that people can also wear chocolate chip and the old DCU uniform pants or make shorts out of them and make a fashion statement so I just buying some cheap used pants and shirt and cut them and make shorts out of them. You can also put on German army pants or uniform clothing from our NATO allies and that should not be in violation either. I would much rather see a soldier wearing some old classic military attire than putting their stupid piercing back in their tongue or their weird and so old-fashioned earrings trying to be different they all look the same. Nothing wrong with being a rebel but I think having piercings, earrings and all kinds of other stupid ugly body art is making you look uniform to all the other weirdos than just wearing some old adequate uniform clothing that you customized when you are off duty. I have no tatoos either. Just my personal opinion. Everyone today seem to look like some employee from Hot Topic or an old record store and they don't seem to be individual anymore because all the individuals look the same. When I was in high school, the Stray Cats were one of the few people I saw who had colored tattoos and now everybody has it. Nobody's different anymore because they're all looking the same! So if you want to be different but yet be cool, you can always put on some old fashioned uniform that the sergeant major will approve and it won't conflict compared to putting on something new and going in violation of current uniform standards.

I agree. Personally, I liked the fit and durability of the winter BDUs. Go with that. You can still find them in surplus stores, or maybe 5.11 has some. I just think, why be conspicuous. After all, we are encouraged to blend in.
