The holidays are a grim-reminder that all has not been well in my world for over twenty-two years, that "family", as I knew it, was rocked by a MOAB October 22, 1997.

This is so true. Most of deployments/conflicts were Oct,Nov, Dec and just beyond. The weight of the 14 folks I have lost weighs on my mind. I also lost my youngest daughter on Thanksgiving and my son on Christmas Day. Now the radio is playing" Those who didn't make it back home" regularly. It is so descriptive of the numerous PGR Missions and my folks funerals off post that it is scary. No Pity, just means I have to work really hard to scrape up a Holiday cheery mood and to not take it out on my loved ones. We survivors have to move forward for our lost ones.

The holidays are the time of year that I look forward to the most. Sometimes I may not be able to buy my family any or all of what they want, but if I manage to get them anything, they're thankful. For me, it's the knowing that I have my family and some close friends to enjoy spending that time with them. I'm only a little sad because my son & his girls aren't with us because they live in other states. We call them to wish them Happy Holidays & again to wish them Happy New Year. Being with family and remembering why we celebrate the season.
