Well I don't know if the rifles are getting lighter, but in regards to keeping people from getting injured in combat, it'll never happen. It doesn't matter how high or low the requirements. Injuries happen. Hell, I remember one of my last CFTs, my buddy leaped onto my back during the fireman carry portion. Leg went one way, knee went another. These things happen. Not to mention in combat situations, people are typically exchanging fire. Injuries will always happen.

What are you talking about, the proposed changes to the PFT?

Yes Sir, I thought that they were greatly reduced from what I recall.

Looks like just the 3 mile run time was made easier. Everything else could get more difficult.

Cpl Kevin Osborne Do you know where I might be able to find the 'new MC combat oriented requirements" you mention? Being of old, I'm not up on current requirements of this nature and would like to see how they compare to what we were taught long ago. As far as weight goes the old M-1 was 9.5#. Anything less than that is light.

That is almost exactly what I was thinking for the weight; 10lbs. I thought about the previous requirements. I honestly don't know if they have revised them with the inclusion of Women Marines or not. I had posted a link to the website that I watched the video; I will try to recall the requirements. 3 pull-ups, 1 1/2 miles in 13:30, 55 crunchies in two minutes and 45 ammo can lifts. A lot of that is greek to me also.

I had posted the website URL earlier. If this does not work I am not sure how to share it? https://www.facebook.com/BaltimoreMarines/videos/ [login to see] 05433/

Cpl Kevin Osborne - Interesting article. Of course years ago there was no IST to get into the MC. Once enlisted you had to pass the PFT whatever it was at the time. It has been changed over the years so it's hard to keep up. I thought you might be referring to various tactical training tasks necessary to be a grunt or machine gunner, etc..

I am with you Captain; I don't remember an IST either. Looks like it is actually asking more of the Women Marines than the previous did. I just know that if you are doing less than 10 pull-ups you are going to be struggling to hump with your rifle! I always focused on the 18 minute 3 mile run and 20 pull-ups for a perfect score. I never made it there; best time was 18 pull-ups and 19:15 run time.
