After reading through the Bible a couple times by the early 90's, I was struck by the sheer number of names of individuals that God has included in His Word. Especially in the Old Testament individuals are named frequently as the son of. etc. The new testament lists the human genealogy of Christ. I was the first one to recognize my need to Christ and place my trust in what He has accomplished. I started researching my own family history for my own purposes and for my descendants. The LDS [Mormons] have spent significant effort on genealogy research and make it available since their belief system includes praying for "salvation" of the dead. I have found useful information in the LDS's FamilySearch.org search engines. I have not found any Christian or Jewish, for that matter, focused genealogy search capabilities. Certainly church cemetery, christening and baptismal, and marriage records have been considered generally reliable [spelling has been influenced as government became more involved in tracking people - census]. I would be very interested in trustworthy Christian-run genealogy organizations with internet search capability. I am not intending to bash the LDS; but, I am interested in any evangelical, orthodox or Roman Catholic organizations.

As far as I know, the LDS has the best information outside of government provided resources.

Some argue that the LDS is not "Christian", but you are absolutely correct about their genealogical data base. It's massive and they share it freely so long as you are willing to share back.

Also, check out http://libertyellisfoundation.org/passenger for immigration records of those who entered the country through Ellis Island.

https://familysearch.org/ it's apparently an LDS website but you don't have to be a member of their church I'm not.

Jeff, thanks. Last month I was able to find out information on part of my family which was named Moorman [alternate Moreman, Morman] using the familysearch, org site. Much of the information is entered by LDS members in part because their faith includes praying for the dead and it is helpful for them to learn who their ancestors are.

I believe you do not find any because as Christians genealogies outside of Christ are meaningless. There are actually passages in scripture that tell us to avoid genealogies (as ou will see below). Now I am not saying not to do these as they are very interesting seeing were our family lines come from, but we know we ultimately belong to Christ and we are heirs to the throne of God.

Titus 3:9
But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.

1 Timothy 1:3-4
As I urged you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.

David, thanks. I am sure you realize that those scriptures were focused on what was happening in the century before Christ came into this world as a newborn and continued after His death and resurrection. There were many false Christs and efforts to establish their genealogy, not to mention the requirements for High Priest, etc.
Everybody on the planet is descended from Noah and one of his sons. A couple years ago I started a genealogy line at Noah and added his sons, etc. I know I am an adopted son of God and know He only has children no grandchildren since each of us is responsible for what we do in relation to Christ - either we bow the knee willingly in this life or by force at the final judgment of those who ultimately reject Him. Respectfully, Steve
