Are there any other options to separate early to go from Army active duty to active Guard?

My son is a 74D on active duty in the Army. His ETS from a six year enlistment is 2022. I'm in a position where can get him an AGR job through my connections. It sounds like he has no option but to wait until six months prior to his ETS to apply for one of these slots. Are there any other options to separate early to go from active duty to active guard? I may be able to influence his chain of command if there are any options outside of waiting to ETS.
