I was looking at several member profiles recently and noticed that there are a few profiles that display as SM, yet these members have been out of the military for years, some even decades. For RallyPoint ranking purposes, should members be required to transition to V or R once they leave the service, or for active duty, transition into their new paygrade/rank once their are promoted?

ENS (Join to see) roger that, good observation read/share. I am proud of my status after a long-haul of 25 years and 3 days of active federal service to my Nation. IMHO, it should go with your current status.

ENS (Join to see) - As far as somebody who has "been out of active duty since the 1980s and shows civilian employment on their profile, yet still ranks as an "SM" in their RallyPoint profile" - that could be any reserve component service member who is an active reservist like my friends SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth CPT L S
I have known some RIFed officers who came back many years later at a lower grade or as an NCO. Those service members could also be listed as SM legitimately.

Thanks for posting a relevant question in a respectful way ENS (Join to see). In my own case in 2008 I transitioned to the retired reserves after just over 34 years of military service which includes just under 19 years of active military service. Because I had not fully retired and was drawing no significant retirement benefits I elected to be a Veteran when I joined RallyPoint in March 2015. This October I will be fully retired and when I get my blue retired ID I plan to change my profile from Veteran to Retired.

Personally, LTC Stephen F., I would think that those assigned to the Retired Reserve should also place an R after their name, but your rationale to use a V makes sense as well.

I was retired under the reserve program when I joined RP. Had I not been as old as I was I think I would have used V until I drew full retirement benefits also.
