Are there different routes one can take to officially change rank in the Army system?

Ensure to send the demotion orders to your finance office. They will process accordingly and he will accrue a collection of debt once they adjust the DOR.

I ask because soldier was demoted on 03 JAN 17 and is still showing old rank on LES, EMILPO and AKO. This can really do a disservice to a soldier (MyPay) if a process is not properly dealt with. CoC is stating that have heard nothing from JAG in reference to paperwork, however speaking with JAG they said they sent paperwork last week. Is there an amiable way to go about this without stepping on peoples toes.

Demotion and erroneously paid at old rank can and does happen....two separate systems and it takes a personal action for BOTH>
Id venture to say it always gets noticed at some point and once the personal action is properly completed, you can bet the Gov will recover ALL of the erroneously paid funds

SPC Brady Allen E-MILPO (system where promotions and reductions are entered) does not talk to the pay system, so that Soldier's leadership needs to ensure that the DA 2627 gets sent to finance ASAP. When finance comes to get that money, they will not hesitate for a single second on the collection.

A while back some schools moved all students / trainees to at least SSG. Even with a wash out soldier kept SSG
Look at pay scale. There are monthly pays for ranks with far too few years. Like MSG E8 with 4 years.

AR 600-8-19 enlisted promotions and reductions, it explains what needs to be done. Usually it's just a DA Form 4187 with an attached copy of the article 15, for E-1 - E-4 it takes Company Commanders signature, for E-5 Bn Commander and E-6 it takes BDE Commanders signature or higher headquarters Commanders signature. For E-7 it takes Commanding Generals signature that's submitted to DA for official orders reducing soldier.

Sure if you would like to change your rank, just look at the UCMJ, break a few of the rules and your rank will change in no time, this is perhaps the quickest way. The more time consuming, but more rewarding way is to do your job, complete whatever requirements are necessary for the next higher rank, and be recommended for promotion... ;)

Get sent to the NCO board a week before pcs, fail, and s shops will most likely fudge something up to show that you passed. Happened on more than one occasion.

Got paid 26 months worth of w/ dependent BAH. Got remarked and the finance guy caught it. He looked at me and said it looks like you got 2 months of BAH while single. Why yes I did.

I’d like to see the Army and Marine Corps change the E7 - E9 ranks so we can better see them from a distance. This way we can properly address the one Sr. NCO that gets hung up on the mistake.

By error, I was promoted, and payment went to the bank I went from E-4 to O-5. when I returned and noticed 8 weeks of pay stubs were wrong, I did have to give the extra money back. I just was afloat and had no way to know. Showed the error to my Div Off and he said it was a good thing, I never had a chance to spend the money

I can remember back in the old Brown Shoe Army, Military Pay Orders were initiated in the Personnel Office by the respective Company Pers Clerk based on the units Morning Report. Leave, promotions reductions,m etc., were entered in the MPO and sent to Finance. Things happened. e.g., If you forgot to enter an individual's departure and return from leave, they were never charged with that leave. Don't remember the many times I had to submit the MPO showing re-correction of an E-5, busted by CM to E-1 and years later, the CM was overturned and had to adjust his pay accordingly. AT least, if a screw up, it was caught rather early in the system. .
