Are there others out there who finally discovered they actually came from military family?

I found out after my enlistment was done that my dad was a Vietnam Era Army Infantry and my grandfather was a WW2 Navy Combat Vet lifer. I think missing solid links of males especially to a military member himself can leave a guy in a certain vulnerable situation. In a situation where team and unit and family are interrelated I ask these questions.

My Dad was Navy, my uncle was a radio operator for Gen Eisenhower at SHAEF, my wife's Dad got a Bronze Star, we just got a combat "V" approved for it by Army and VA for his VA headstone, her stepdad had been WW2 and Korea Navy shipboard combat in the Pacific, my next younger brother was USMMA Kings Poimt, I commissioned him when he went USNR-MMR (Merchant Marine Reserve), also, my Mom' Dad had been USMC briefly during the buildup for Iwo Jima, though he hadn't adjusted at Paris Island and had been released early, he never spoke of it, I looked into the whole thing later, my next younger brother's late father in law had been an enlisted Army cook at Chosin Reservoir in Korea, he went through the whole thing, he also, as with my wife's Dad and stepdad, rarely spoke of it, my uncle told !e a good deal about his time at SHAEF, his unit got a Presidential Unit Citation, he was at Reims Germany when the Germans surrendered, he helped send the surrender Telex to Gen Marshall, and swiped a copy, Gen Eisenhower recognized him briefly when he'd been president of Columba Univ before he got elected when m uncle got his Bach, the General gave him his diploma and spoke with him briefly, the aide to the General was aghast, my uncle had been his unit comedian, I'd found out later....

Well growing up on military bases made it rather obvious for my sister and I that our father was in the military. As well my grandfathers and uncles from both sides were military. Some lifers other like myself in for a just couple of years. This goes for my wife's family as well as her dad and all four of her uncles served. Very proud to see the tradition continue - wife's 2nd cousin just got his Budweiser.

My grandfather a German immigrant was a veteran of WWI, and served the whole WWI in the Navy, later in WWII he was made a POW, and served the whole WWII in a POW camp in Japan.
My father now retired Navy, served the whole WWII in the pacific theater, older brother served in Vietnam with the 101st ABN Inf in 1967. And now my two older sons serve in the Coast Guard to date, and I'm very proud of them carrying on the family military tradition.
