My husband and I will have to adopt to start a family. We are ready but the expense is upwards of $60,000 if we adopt locally and more if we adopt internationally. Are we expected to take out a loan and if we miss a payment do they take the kid? (not a real question). Joke aside, we are financially stable and have plenty of space in our home. The fees alone could unbalance our finances making things difficult. Are their resources for this sort of thing?

UPDATE: As it turns out God is good. We found out we are pregnant! Very surprised but excited. Thank you to everyone who gave advice and support. Ill leave the question up incase someone else needs the information.

My wife and I are doing the same thing. We have a child in our home now that we will be eligible to adopt in about six months. We have not had to spend a dime. We are going through the state of Washington. If you have any questions please send me a message.

WE are in Washington and they want $26,000 plus for helping with the adoption, so we are doing it without help (which we could really use as we are both retired and disabled). Our little girl is 6 years old now and we have been working on the adoption since she was born. She is in the Philippines. The U.S. wants the adoption finalized here, but the Philippines won't let her leave the Philippines until the adoption is finished there. But she will have me as her father so she should be an U.S. citizen when the adoption is finalized. Hopeflly the court will finalize this summer, but then we still have to go pick her up

Have you considered fostering to permanent placement? Not sure how it all works but a friend of mine adopted 2. There were no issues to my knowledge.

We went through foster to adopt and it was relatively smooth. Couple court hearings and some stress but we had a 4 month old girl placed with us and she is 9 now doing great.

Please check with your local Child Protective Services.
We adopted last May in Texas through TEXAS CPS and it was relatively fee free
