Are we treating our police today like our Vietnam veterans in the 60's & 70's?

With all that's been going on, what are the similarities and/or differences to the way our police are being treated when compared to how our Vietnam vets were treated in the 60's & 70's?
I understand that there are some police officers who abuse their positions of authority, but I suspect that for the most part, police are a reflection of our society and are only trying to do the job they've been told to do - that is namely, enforcing the laws, regardless of how (un)popular they are.
And before anyone goes on saying that all police are evil, let me ask you this: How would you propose that we enforce our laws and apprehend criminals if we don't have police?
Next: If you hate our laws, why do you think the police have any say in enforcing them? Should police simply ignore those laws they don't agree with?
Last: If you don't agree with those laws, when's the last time you wrote or called your local, state, or federal representatives and/or attempted to vote them in/out of office based on the laws they have or say they will make?
See the trend?

There are many similarities in hatred towards today's police officers. It's down right dangerous and it should be stopped.
I do have one alibi though. On the part of police ignoring laws they don't agree with......that kind of stuff happens and it starts at the head of the executive branch. It's tough to enforce certain laws at this point.
