Are you able to purchase your own attachments for your weapon?

When I get out of all my training as a 37F who will be a part of a SF team (Army), are we able to purchase our own attachments and use them on our weapon or only use what is supplied to us?

Ok. For starters, you will not be a part of an SF Team. To do that, you have to go thru Selection first. You would be a part of their support element(s). Big difference. Secondly, why would you want to purchase all kinds of gadgets for your assigned weapon?

You’re thinking too far into things at this point in your career. Get through training, get to your unit, meet your first line supervisor and discuss these things with him. You’re not at the point in your career to worried about these issues. Focus on training and PT for the time being.

You will not be attached to an SF team. Only one portion of the Psyops group is the tactical portion and unless you seriously set yourself apart from your peers, that won’t be where you go.
Yes you can purchase extra junk for your gun, but your unit will already supply you with everything you need. People who buy extra crap for their weapons usually look like tool bags to everyone else. You won’t use it enough as a 37F to warrant spending money on it, and if you do get deployed to a combat zone MISO is very good at supplying you with all your needs

Putting you own attachments on you issues weapon will likely be a no go. Although you will not be assigned to an SF Team. Teams will order what they need and it is not stock Military issue always. However the unit buys what they need for alecific missions. Anyway, wait until you get to your support unit and ask, you never know.

Who tells you guys these things? (who will be a part of an SF team) Save your money for other stuff you don't need. Your job isn't really direct action related, therefore it wouldn't even help you at your job. Maybe spend money on those new Improved Hot Weather uniforms, or a great pair of (authorized) boots. Be smart kid, if you want to be a cool guy, go to cool guy selection. You will get all the gear you can imagine.

I was a 35F and "attached" to a team. I didn't go kicking in doors with them. It was a surreal experience as an over strength assigned reserve analyst getting pushed out to one of the teams essentially because there was no room back at the flag pool.

One of the SF guys was a 35F himself. Soooooo............ I wasn't anything special they couldn't do themselves (but I could do it much faster). It was a long time of keeping my mouth F-ing shut. Stay in your lane, and do your job better than anyone of them can, and you'll keep your head above water.

When my time was up and my replacement came in he was wearing a full size Bowie Knife, and asked me if I killed anyone. He never made it away from the Flag Pool, and was sent home in 3 months.

OH.............. funny weapons story. While down range I was out and about with a civilian analyst (we were both wearing civilians and had our rifles) on one of the larger bases. He was wondering why everyone was looking at us. I said to him, DUDE!!! they aren't looking at "us" they are looking at your BRAND NEW H&K 416!!!

Don't be Bowie Knife guy or H&K 416 guy................

You’re going to be what’s referred to as an enabler. A force multiplier, if you will. You won’t be part of the ODA, but you will perform your mission and support that ODA’s mission. You get a seat at the grown up table but just like at Thanksgiving with a big, traditional family: kids are seen not heard. You won’t be needing any whizbang gadgets you see in the geardo catalog. All that crap adds weight. You’ll appreciate the lack of added weight the first time you insert with a 7k offset that actually turns out to be more like 13k.

NO,NO, NO! Damnit 1. 1st its the Army's weapon not yours. 2. If they wanted you to hhink on that if you ever have to grab a weapon from someone who's down.ave it they would issue it. 3. If you were in SF which dang little of the 37F's are- normally in PSYOPS units, you could ask the CoC but again, they would say NO. Jesus wept, if it was allowed there would be weapons out there that only the user could operate- think on that if you ever have to grab someone's weapon cause they are down.

37F is among the highest in demand MOS's and the army is probably desperate.

1) Based on June's promotion points ZERO points are required for promotion to SGT and SSG only required 15 points. Now the SGT points actually say N/A, but that's because there are ZERO soldiers that are qualified for promotion, and there are only TWO SGT's promoteable in the SECONDARY ZONE, and both got promoted to SSG.

To get any more money than that one basically needs to be Ranger or SF qualified.

I will be honest, but this was alittle painful to read. I feel like there is a huge misunderstanding when think of SOF overall. You have your 18 series, 37 series and 38 series. All are apart of special operation. Whereas the 18 series are the green berets or operators/ODA and the other two are enablers. Now, at times you will be attached to a ODA, Navy seal or even Marsoc unit. But, within this instances you would need to be apart of the tactical battalion such as 9th POB or what of the other tactical companies. If you get in really well with your attached team you may very well go out on missions with them, but noticing your rank and how your question was structured, I’d stick with passing the Course first and then learning your actual job. Remember, 50 meter target first then the 100 meter. Slow down and take in everything that you can initially. As for the gadgets and cool guy gear, yeah you will get some depending on your unit but for the weapons, save that for your personal owned weapon and not your units. Just my two cents on this.

You are either a Reservist or a 37X, either way you are not getting attached to anything. If you're active you need to slow your roll and worry about just getting selected first, let alone what useless bolt on for a SOPMOD.
Learn the job first before you start preparing for a deployment you likely won't even carry a weapon at.

D, go to a SORB office, so an actual PSYOP NCO can properly brief you. Most if not all don't know what PSYOP does on a tactical mission.

I am a 37F. If you are going through AIT for 37F as part of your initial enlistment then you are in a Reserve unit. You will likely NOT be working with or near SF. That being said its possible at some point that you could.
As for weapons, whats okay for training vs whats okay for war are 2 different things. A light would be okay, but anything else is a waste of money. Your assigned rifle will have a CCO which is already the gold standard for red dots and we reassign weapons from time to time so you dont want to leave anything on the weapon.
A decent sling is the only thing I recommend. What state do you live in?

37s have positions within the SFG, they are regionally aligned. If you want to buy attachments for your unit wpn go ahead. Just like any other wpn in the arms room it’ll be good to shoot when you qualify with it. Just remember it now belongs to that wpn till you PCS. I’ve done it and no issues.
If another SM shoots my wpn he/she will have no issues.
One comment that is fact below. If it gets destroyed or lost, you lose the money.
