When I get out of all my training as a 37F who will be a part of a SF team (Army), are we able to purchase our own attachments and use them on our weapon or only use what is supplied to us?

Who tells you guys these things? (who will be a part of an SF team) Save your money for other stuff you don't need. Your job isn't really direct action related, therefore it wouldn't even help you at your job. Maybe spend money on those new Improved Hot Weather uniforms, or a great pair of (authorized) boots. Be smart kid, if you want to be a cool guy, go to cool guy selection. You will get all the gear you can imagine.

PFC (Join to see) - No, you can only change your MOS if the Army is short on other MOS's and your MOS is overstrength. Even then, you can only change it when you complete with your first contract.

PFC (Join to see) - No, you can still go to Ranger School and then try out for SF down the road. Soldiers do it all the time but their success rate is not at high. First, I would see how you like it in the Army first. After a year and when you become a SGT then you can readjust your goals. You may find out that you don't like the Army or you really love your job and don't want to go SF anymore. Nothing is wrong with PsyOps but you need to get some experience first.

Ok. For starters, you will not be a part of an SF Team. To do that, you have to go thru Selection first. You would be a part of their support element(s). Big difference. Secondly, why would you want to purchase all kinds of gadgets for your assigned weapon?

Few adds:
1. many people purchase, on their own, lots of extra gear. We call them Geardos. There may be a time where you need a certain something to make your life easier. Just remember, 200lbs of light weight equipment is still 200lbs. And that is coming out of your pocket.

2. Commanders prescribe organizational equipment and clothing for the mission. SF is not the free for all people think it is. You will most likely wear your individual kit in a directed configuration. It is up to team level SOP but most units prescribe And standardize what gear, where it is on your person, and other mission items spread across the unit. When they go down, everyone else knows where critical items are so they can be cross leveled.

3. That weapon still has to fit in the small arms rack in the arms room when you are done.

4. If you modify the weapon in any way, you need TACOM approval, which your immediate command is going to kill on its way up. When you modify weapons, you are potentially voiding the law of land warfare legal approval on that weapon.

5. You may generally only use what you were issued. Many guys get patrol slings and the stock mounted mag pouch which is not a big deal. Others mount a sure fire light on their helmet so they can have white, red, and IR light whilst keeping no their hand free while searching someone, rendering aid, using the clearing barrel, etc. don't go crazy buying stuff before your first line tells you what the unit standards are. Your M4 may already have MILSTD 1913 picatinny rails on the receiver and the hand guards. It is standard with a collapsible stock. You may already have the option of a bipod, aiming lasers, aiming lights, ACOG, etc. what are you going to put on it? Painting it will be a no go unless your Commander whomis signed for it says to do it. That is usually done by the Logistics Readiness Center who protect TACOM's interest. If issued a hand gun (M9 or the M17/18) is issued with a holster you may or may not like. Because you have to wear it, you may be able to purchase a suitable tactical holster. Don't hold your breath, but it may happen.

6. You may be assigned a different individual weapon all together. Perhaps multiple times. M17/18, M9, M4, M16A4, M249, M240B.

Do yourself a favor. Get through training first, get to your unit and learn their standards....then worry about this. Ranger Joe's is only electrons away.

You will not be attached to an SF team. Only one portion of the Psyops group is the tactical portion and unless you seriously set yourself apart from your peers, that won’t be where you go.
Yes you can purchase extra junk for your gun, but your unit will already supply you with everything you need. People who buy extra crap for their weapons usually look like tool bags to everyone else. You won’t use it enough as a 37F to warrant spending money on it, and if you do get deployed to a combat zone MISO is very good at supplying you with all your needs

PFC (Join to see) it’s a tactical battalion within the MISO group. You get it by being better than your peers

PFC (Join to see) no, like better than your peers at your Psyops unit. What you do in Basic and AIT have no effect on the rest of your career.
