I frequented the Presidio Army Base, every day for a year; after I was honorably discharged from the Army. I really wanted to be back in the military; and to get off the TDRL. (Temporary Disability Retirement List). I would have been promoted from SPC to SGT.
However, that wish did not come true.
Now, I am a photographer; and a Soldiers' Angel- helping my fellow Veterans.
I am a lot happier now; that I am out of the Army. I still wish that I could go back in; though. I wish that I could help to protect my Brothers and Sisters in combat.
However, I am too old now; and have a 100% service-connected disability: mental illness/stress disorder. I have also recently been diagnosed with PTSD.

I served 30+ years and retired in 2013 - I absolutely would do ANYTHING for any of my brothers and sisters in service - even go back and fight with them if I could!

I had to leave before I wanted to. I would have served for 30. Made almost half of that.

The military life I lived was a wonderful experience. It was a simple time in my life. Everything was cut and dry, my pay, my position, my purpose, my housing, healthcare, and there was a ETS date. Life outside the military is also wonderful, but it is more dynamic and requires greater faith in God and self. There is greater freedom and therefore the chances of success and failure are greater. There is nothing cut and dry. My opinion civilian life is more difficult, but it's more rewarding as well. I would say in some ways I am injoying the journey just the same. Would I serve again. I would gladly raise my hand again for any adventure my Lord directs me into.

That is an interesting question SPC Margaret Higgins. Briefly reflecting on my 34 years or so of serving this nation in uniform and my service-connected disabilities as well other physical disabilities which have significantly limited me lead to recognize that while the heart is willing the flesh is weak to use a Biblical expression.
The first 13 years of my service had its challenges and its benefits for both me and those I served with. Yet it was at the point of my service that I recognized my need for a Savior and received what Jesus had already done for with no preconditions - God accepted me as I was as He does each person who desires a relationship with the living God. This occurred in 1987. For the following 21 years of military service and the years beyond my Lord and Savior has guided my steps - many times only noticeable to me as I reflected on "where" I had been through.

Yes. I'm happy...been happy since getting out. Spent my whole life from the time I was born in a Marine hospital because Kadena didn't have a hospital back then, then entered the Af...Married an AF guy...got out of the AF.. from 0 to 40 I was on AF bases....still go on base to the commissary....I wasn't a lifer...never would have been...but I certainly have appreciated everything the AF has afforded my family and still does.

SPC Margaret Higgins, I've regretted getting out since 1967. Even though I went to Vietnam, I've had remorse for not re-enlisting, because of being guaranteed to have at least one to two more years on deployment to Vietnam. I don't think I was back home long enough to get over just being there. I would go back in if it were possible, but it's not. There's something about being in the military that is hard to explain to a civilian. I miss all my combat buddies, and I miss the structure. I'm just totally in love with my family, but if I had it to do over, I would re- up.

Seems as if I'm in the minority here, but to be quite honest, I retired when I felt the time was right for me. It was on my own terms and timeline (in other words I wasn't forced to retire due to disability or grade restrictions) so that does make a HUGE difference. While I do miss the people (civilians really don't 'get it'), it was time for me to go.
Would I go back? I think not. I'm older and just not as physically capable as I was when I was younger. I'll do what I can to continue to support my brothers and sisters in arms from the 'outside'.

It took a bit after the transition, but yes, I'd say I'm happy now, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss it... As far as going back? I'd have to say no as "my" military no longer exists... I've been keeping track of quite a few changes that affect DoD on a whole, and as much as I hate to say it, I've become one of those "old hardcore retirees" in the last several years wondering, "What the hell are they doing to my military!!!" If it was to go in and deploy/fight? Without a doubt!!! But to go in and sit stateside? No... I really don't think I could handle the red tape and changes! LOL! Wow... thinking about this, it just dawned on me that I've been retired for just over 7 years!!! Damn... :)

I am still currently Active Duty, but will be out come November. Would I go back in....No. As others have said, it is my time to go. The Navy is changing, and it isn't the same as eight years ago. I no longer fit into their mold; nor am I the time to "kiss butt" so to speak in order to advance. I may just be old school, but my wife and two kids are more important to me.

SPC Margaret Higgins, this is tough to answer objectively. I'm happier now, but it's in different areas of my life. Since leaving service, I've gotten married and started a family. Watching my son grow and learn has been amazing, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to do so. I can't really compare it since while I was in, I was more focused on my own career and experiences that brought me joy. I think I would just say that I have been quite content in my life choices both in and out of the military.

As for going back in, I don't think I would volunteer at this point in my life, even if it was medically possible to return. Being a military spouse, I am now the source of stability for my son, for lack of a better way to put it. I have seen how hard it can be with a husband and wife both getting orders, going TDY, and being deployed. We are very lucky to be financially stable, and I think that our family benefits more with our current situation.

As to would I go back? Tough to say... I miss my Shipmates, deploying to "the tip of the spear", and traveling to exotic ports that not many people from other branches got to see, and doing my job but what I DON'T miss is politics, "field day", duty days, toxic leaders (though we have those here in Civilian Land too), and did I mention politics?

I love my country and was proud to serve. I have a ton of memories from some great times in unusual circumstances and glad for them. SPC Margaret Higgins, I retired in MAY98. I've been retired longer than most of those currently serving (even at senior levels) have been in the service! I enjoyed my time in the service, but over the space of 17 years, one simply must move on to other things. So to ask if I would go back now is simply something I don't contemplate, even though I wish I could.
At the risk of sounding maudlin, I think of GEN Douglas MacArthur's words as he closed his famous "Duty, Honor, Country" speech. "The shadows are lengthening for me. The twilight is here. My days of old have vanished, tone and tint. They have gone glimmering through the dreams of things that were. Their memory is one of wondrous beauty, watered by tears, and coaxed and caressed by the smiles of yesterday."

Happy? Yes, but for different reasons, motivations, achieved goals and planned actions then i had while in.
Would I return? Yes, but with caveats that would make my return unworkable to the service.
I would require a position I could make a difference.
I would require I be assigned to a unit with leaders, not just officers.
I would require I be allowed to meet or exceed the commander's intent and stomp on those who would stand in the way with form over function, giving the easy no and not finding the harder yes.

I was honored to have been in such a unit when i retired.. I doubt I could be so lucky again.

I got out in 1988, after 14 years in the Marines, because I was just tired of the PC required while working as an operations/training officer of recruit training. You basically were not there to make decisions, but to follow the SOP to the letter. No flexibility. In 1991, I attempted to get back in, but was told that I was too old (35). In 1995, I attempted to get into the Marine Reserves. I was 39 years old. I passed all of the requirements of the tracked vehicle unit I wanted to join, and the C.O. wanted me, but HQTRS Marine Corps said only under extraordinary circumstances would they take me back. In 1996, I decided to go into the Army National Guard, and retired, as the unit I was with (Armor Unit) transitioned to an Engineer Unit. I made some good friends in the Guard and would go back in if I wasn't pushing 60.

Very difficult question, I'd say withstanding some of the current Army leaderships civilian directed policies-in a heartbeat, I have always loved my fellow soldiers! I believe the dominant deciding factor for me to retire at 23 years of service was those changes in policy which I didn't feel I could wholeheartedly support.

That's a very difficult question. Right now I realistically understand that it would be really bad before they recalled me. Even though rabbis are habitually 50% undermanned, the odds of them taking a 55 year old rabbi on 100% disability are somewhere between slim and none...

That being said, before my issues got too bad, and during the wars, I really wanted to return as a chaplain to help those who were serving. (Note, I was a Machinist's Mate and a Surface Line Officer, not a Chaplain before retiring..)

Great question, SPC Margaret Higgins. I miss alot about serving in the military. I think mostly though, I miss my brothers/sisters, and the camaraderie we shared during close combat and some of the painful admin side of being a leader. However, I'm still young enough (37) to serve again, and am in the process of joining the Navy Reserve to further serve our great country. This time though, I'll be DEEP in the admin/support side of things and won't see any action as in my past Army roles. I've had enough time as a civilian these last 3 years to know my kids and wife couldn't handle the deployment op-tempo that I used to be a part of. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will still feel strongly about serving as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the Navy as I did as a combat arms Field Artillery Officer in the Army. I'd predict that it will be just as fulfilling and will be a better balance for my family than Active Duty was for those many years. Thanks for posting this question!

I can't lie, I have several years left before I leave. Yet I already fear that going to the civilian side. I am SO used to the way that the Army does things that the abnormalities of it are just so normal anymore. I don't worry about it enough to be a 30 year guy (too old, came in too late), I will do my 20 and call it good. However going back into a world where people are not living the same way that my guys and I do now, does cause me concern.

I retired almost 20 years ago and never looked back. Would I go back then or now, sure if my country was at war and needed me but otherwise no way. First, I could not survive in this crazy PC world called the military anymore and secondly I couldn't afford it financially. I still interact with the military on a fairly regular basis as I work for a major defense firm, but as mentioned I would not be comfortable today with all of the PC whining and senior noncoms and field grade officers I meet that seem to be more focused on internal politicking than the troops.

I wasn't "done" yet with my military service when I was put on the Temporary Disability Retired List with 18 years of service in January 2001. It took me months to come to terms with knowing my days in uniform were over. Being on TDRL was just a formality, there was no chance I would be reinstated. As much as I tried, I couldn't overcome the injuries from deployment, but if I could have I would have returned to duty in a heartbeat. I've never liked leaving a job unfinished and 14 years later I still feel my military career was left that way.

I respect pride, and even if some remember their service days with rose-colored glasses - I must say that I am proud of what I have done, and how it changed me to a degree. But I am happier now as a semi-civilian.. and only become soldier now and then. Even now I lean towards transforming my halftime civilian life to a fulltime one. The Army is changing, and it isn't to the better. Some things are improving, but overall we are creating a weaker and less disciplined Army in my opinion. Where you expect reward for doing the right thing, where you expect a medal for doing your job. No thank you Army.. we had some great times together - but I feel it is time we go different ways.

I served 22 years and miss it. The civilian life is hard and the ethics in the civilian sector are no where close to what was expected in the military. I find there is very little integrity in civilians of the working sector. There is no honor and the duty ends when the time card is punched. I would go back in a second. I could trust my fellow team mates.

As a youngster, I watched the early space missions with awe. In Vietnam, I heard that Apollo 11 had landed on the moon, and Neil Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon. At that time, I decided that working on the space program would be a rewarding, challenging career. I started work on the Space Shuttle program, three years before the first flight, and stayed until one month after the last Space Shuttle flight. I have no regrets, although the bonds that you form with your military brothers, is much stronger than anything in the civilian world.

Yes I would go back in again, great opportunity to meet people and travel the world, I am happier now because of my experiences. The only thing that would bother me about going in again is the services offered after the fact, seem to be broken and need fixed such as VA. I see much taxpayer waste and that is my area now.

I would say both sides have their ups and downs. Am I happier now? Yes. This may seem selfish of me, but I would only serve again if I could commission as a pilot, or an intelligence officer.

I would, but which one? I served in the AF and Army and loved my time in both branches. Problem: If I went to an AF Vs. Army game, who do I chear for? Would I have to change sides at half time, like the POTUS does? I need to get stickers for my PU: Army beat Navy, Air Force beat Army, Army beat Air Force, Air Force beat Navy. Oh the dilemma. Can't we all just get along? Does anyone know a good shrink?

I would go back in tomorrow but I've only been retired since December so it's not been long enough to really grasp fully what retirement is going to be like as time goes by. I will say that if I did go back in, I would not want to go back in just to go back to Seymour Johnson AFB, that was not a good assignment, I'd have to go somewhere else. In all seriousness, my 24 years in the Air Force were the best 24 years of my life, by FAR.

Me personally I'm happier since I've left the military. I didn't really enjoy being in the military. I enjoyed being around some the people I've met. I wouldn't go back probably because I've managed to have far greater success outside the military then inside. I also like being a position where I have more career control.

If I was 18 I would do it all over again. At 52, not so much. If I am being honest, it would be too large of a compensation and lifestyle issue for me. I travel a lot in my job but have no interest in moving out of Florida to Camp Lejeune, Pendleton or worse. All of the PT I would have to do to get back into game shape would be brutal. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything but we have to know when to hang up the spurs. Then there is the entire cultural change in the military I would have to deal with that I simply would not want to.

It depends! What rank, where I'm stationed, etc. I wouldn't want to go back in as an E-4 with my experience. The "rank has it's privileges" thing would get under my skin. I'm too old to be curfewed due to rank. I've enough wisdom to know right from wrong and I know my own personal limits.

I was at Ft. Carson with the 3/87 Infantry Reg. before they deactivated it after the Gulf War...I also got to drive tanks for a while with the 3/85th Amour 40 Division with the California NG loved that as well. My Dad was also in the 40 Division in 52-53 and we also spent a few years together in the Air Force reserve both of us deployed to the Gulf War he was that kind a man.

Yes. I went back in the reserves in 03 after being out 13 yrs to help out and was mobilized to AD. I love being a Hospital Corpsman. I will admit being down graded to HM3 at first was a bit hard to bit off but I picked up E5 again quick. I i went back now would want to be HM1 or and Go for HMC. My goal would be to train the new breed of HM's

The only two ways I would come back in, is if I could be in a position that could guarantee that I would not mess up all the hardware in my back, and if the Army can guarantee that I would not have another toxic leader ( I had a few in my many years in). Unfortunately in the Military line of work, both are impossible.

Yes. If I could go back to Argentia Nfld as an Air Traffic Controlman. My 3 years Four Months Four Days Twelve Hours and some scrap provided me with the best life foundation possible. Could not pass the FAA Class II physical but I think I could be a JAG now. Rather be the ATC.

Sometimes I really miss it and wish I could go back in.
But at the time I retired in 2004 it was really getting to be hard to deal with all the crap and in the last 11 years its probably gotten worse.

My time in the Army was the very best time of my life and my daughter's as well. She hated when my time was up. If I could, I most definitely would go back. I was only a little over 3 years from regular retirement. Although my disability is greater than my retirement would've been, I loved my life as a soldier and an NCO.

I could not even if I wanted to . With my former Unit failing to finish Line of Duty, and V.A. St. Louis HIDING same L.O.D. proof because some jerk and his sleepy Supervisor thinks it is funny. Jerk said he thought I was another Black man he served with at Ft. Ord during Panama Invasion. Said he did not like me and for the next ten years they tag teamed me threatening to erase shred delete my Military Medical Records. After ten years of the entire V.A. system HIDING records, loosing x rays and being uncooperative. I was able to get the jerks name, supposed title and the six Medical documents my U.S. Representative got me. After ten years I was able by luck to find out phone number of Chief of Customer (no) Service at V.A St. Louis Records Management Center . I think it was early 2013. The employee who gave me the Chief S phone number was fired. Shortly after a long discussion of wrong doing by ( her two IDiots) the Chief tells me she has signed records request form in front of her and refuses to release copies of needed Medical Records. Here it is twenty years in all and I have written to President Begging for my records to be released. The Chief sent me a letter saying every document will get put on CD and I have to wait Nine Months. What are the chances the Chief retires before then and why aren't all of them in jail for Conspiracy to wrongfully with hold Medical Treatment/Records.y Plt. Sgt. Told me on LinkedIn that he retired as Company First Sgt. and does not care if I get treated.the 300th mp cmd was stripped of investigators rights. Reduced to Brigade. Had a big tuff with drugs in 447th in Springfield, Ohio. Two Sgts died in P.O.V. crash while return ing from P. Add a boy Indiana. Drinking was involved but was covered up and office people entertained troopers investigating the accident for what ever reasons. B.A.C. maybe. It sure did not phase the CSM that was grading my new lt in the back of her van at cmp
atta boy. If any of you see twenty years and three inches of waste from my right side. Know it is O.k. because the New Balance I bought days before my knee injury was recently fitted with a lift for my twenty year old running shoes.By the way the St. Louis Rmc is HIDING records from at least four other Veterans. Well that is what the Chief told me. Sept. 20,1993 phone conversation where she admitted she sent black employee from St. Louis to my one light village in Ohio just to see that I am not the Black guy he thought I was. He called me a liar and faker and drove off through a red light. Strangely I was unable to close on his position before he sprinted. Could it be the nerve damage, length loss on right side of body, or the flat spot worn from twenty years of (no papers no care). Recently I had to shove 100 documents in the face of a nurse practitioner and tell her that President Obama said all Veterans will be treated. I got one pair of China made shoes with a lift and more aspirin. My old mp unit is guarding Guantanamo as I write this I think.

I loved my 23 years in the Big Blue and all of the wonderful folks I served with but, no I would not. I dont think that I would fit into the downward directed grand social experiment that the military is being forced to participate in and would not be comfortable serving today. In a split second. The reason, it was the best life learning experience I ever had, plus it made me a more compassionate person. I was stationed at NAS Jacksonville, FL before transferring to the Naval Hospital in Orlando (during the View Nam conflict) While I didn't necessarily agree with us being there, I supported our men and women who were. No. The Army Reserve has been a disappointment from the start. I have tried very hard over the years to develop training, apply for schools, maintain a positive attitude, do my best, and it feels as though I am merely beating my head against a wall of bureaucracy that is intent on making things difficult at every turn. Today's Army is not what it once was, and while it has made strides in accepting women and gays, it has gone backward in so many other categories.

I sorta have. I left active duty in 1984 for family reasons. I went into the private sector, and was lured into civilian service supporting the Navy in acquisitions. I've been on a Tiger cruise with my son, and I loved it. I'd go back in a heartbeat, but I realize that my physical capabilities are not up to the requirements of the job I used to do. I'm a dad/seadad; I support the war fighters. Ah, nostalgia!

I retired in March 2008 after turning down the offer of Master Chief by Admiral John Harvey (CNP at the time) only because I had a fantastic job lined up with a civilian sports marketing company. Little did I know the stock market would tank six months later and within 18 months of that escapade, I would be out of a job. I obviously rebounded as most of us military guys (gender neutral) do but I would go back on the bag today! Give me a goal and send me back to recruiting duty in a heart beat. I miss the team concept. I miss the train your relief concept. I miss my shipmates!

Four years ago when I left the service and thought that the civilian world would be all lollie-pops and gum drops, I would have said hell no! But now having lived and struggled in this very different world... I would return in a heartbeat! I'd get past the back and knee pain, stay off waivers, deploy, PCS and enjoy the lifestyle that makes sense to myself and my family cause civilians are hard to be around after the military.

Yes I would after all these years wish I would have stayed in.The Army was a changing point in my life and I,m thankful for that.Lucky for me being raised in the Country hunting a lot I was able to go thru basic with ease where a lot of the City guys had a hard time.The AIT training was different they try to push 4 years of College in your head in 4 months.And if you didn,t pass Cook school was next.I passed but those Warrant Officers that flew our Helicopters where real Ass holes.After all that the Military was just another job with a lot of paper work,I would go back in a minute.

The AF had to kick me out, so went to work for 2 years in the 1st Gulf War. 1990-1992 at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean. 74 years old now. Was 50 when I got back in 1992. To keep cohesiveness and Esprit De Corps from toxic leadership within the unit, it should be the job of senior leaders to nip it in the bud. Are there toxic leaders? Yes anyone who has served has seen it. Wether you are a squad leader or a regimental commander they can and should be weeded out.

Been there, done that. I served six years in the Navy, was out for about 8 years, then joined the Marines at the ripe old age of 35 1/2. The military is a game for the young -- 20 year old bodies are far more resilient than 40 year old bodies, and mine paid a price. That doesn't mean I regret it, but I certainly wouldn't do it again, again.

These days, I like sleeping in too much to give it up, and certainly don't miss the paperwork. (I know, a lot of it isn't on paper, but the point stands.)

Yes I had a rode in helicopters, tanks, did military pay, worked on national disaster planning and relief, created a DTS Smartbook, wrote a DFAS SOP on disaster planning and relief, and worked in a Corps budget office, and go to CGSC which gave me a clearer picture of the macro side.

I am happier now, but my priorities have changed also. I could not put mission before family again..So...No I would not go back in, plus not the military I joined in 1978 or left in 2005....That does not mean I regret any portion of my service, I loved my military life, camaraderie, mentoring, successful focused mission accomplishment, etc. All those things are now memories...and I'm an old dog content to let the pups grow.

I'm feeling the call again. I have a shot at going back in as a physician. Especially with the recent attacks in Europe, I want to do whatever I can to help.

I did 11 years and do not regret my decision to get out. Everyone says "you were more than halfway there" like I didn't consider that when I made my decision. It was time for me, i just wasn't mentally in it anymore. If she needed me, my uniforms are still serviceable and I will strap up again, but I am enjoying my life as a civilian now.

I am happy in my old age. I graduated High School in 1968 and entered the Army that winter. I had some difficulty as I only had 60 % range of motion in my right arm and basically was prohibited form serving. I was Med evaced to Walter Reed in August "71 from Viet Nam. It was at that point I got out. I would do it all over again but my right arm was on the verge of failure when I got out. I was a Military Policeman in the Army and became a Federal Officer when I got out. My life has been great. I am blessed to have been married to the same woman since 1978 and have a son who has a career in public service. He holds a BS and 2 masters. He will have his PhD pretty soon.

I am just as happy now as when i was in. I earned many novel memories i would never take back, good and bad in my service and they define who i am as a man and influence my civilian life.

Wow, that is an interesting question that has me thinking both positively and negatively about my service. I got out after 11 years and greatly miss the camaraderie, discipline, and pride of wearing the uniform. I don't think my body could take the rigors that I put it through during my time in service, back when I was young and thought I was invincible. Deployments were hard, but that was expected and what we knew going into it. However, I don't miss those that hide behind their rank or position as an excuse for not not being a leader worthy of respect.

I know that I made the right choice in getting out as I was able to be with my family during my kid's high school years. After getting out I was a Veteran's Employment Representative, so I still got my daily dose of BSing with my fellow Veterans. After making my decision to get out, I knew that I made the right decision when after I informed my unit, I was pulled from my duties as a Platoon Sergeant, was told that I was a dirtbag for "abandoning" my troops, and sent away with no NCOER, no ETS award, not even a "good luck" lunch or plaque. Yeah, they showed me that I made the right choice. I do miss it though...

I am still in the Reserves (set to ETS in September, WOO), I left Active Duty after 10.5 years of service. Aside from the monthly interruption for Battle Assembly, I am much happier than I was while serving in regards to employee/employer relationships. As far as a connection with my fellow service members compared to my coworkers, there is no comparison. I will never have friends like I did while in uniform. I will never again suffer with money like I did while I was in uniform. You give and you take.

I will not serve again after this final run. So long and thanks for the memories. I would not trade them, but I do not want to recapture any sort of glory.

Pay sucked and so did stateside assignments even in the most beautiful locations. Overseas in Germany and Korea were the best times of my life and I still love going back and traveling to this day. I would take orders going back on active duty for a worthy assignment but my uncle and I don't always agree on what worthy is.

I spent 3 years active duty, 40 years in reserves and ANG, and ARNG. I enjoyed most of my service.Today I am physically unable to cut the mustard, and if I was with the PC, social experiments, and haggling over "NEW UNIFORMS", "SERVICE SPECIFIC UTILITY UNIFORMS", and the utter waste of resources trying to replace the M-16 but making requirements so high that all 5 challengers any one was better then the M-16 failed to pass. The idiot rifle modular so that any one can be taught to disassemble and reassemble it. I don't know if most drill sergeants today could quickly learn and teach dis assembly, cleaning, reassembly and function check of the M-1 Gerand or M-14. The M-16 does not have the range to be a rifle, when I walked the ranges on Benning and Jackson, the 223 slugs dropped to the ground 200 meters from the end of the ranges, only 30 cal slugs made it to the end of the range. All of these petty turf wars , if I could be young and healthy again I would not go back in unless we could get the 1960's services BACK!

Everything I have today is because of the military. I continue serving the National Guard (I hit 20 this December) and I'm looking forward to staying as long as my body and mind are willing.

NO! We had a nice marriage; however, we grew apart after 26 years. In the end, we both new it was time to separate. I guess the big issue was the local politics of the unit. I spent 20 years being promoted on results, then suddenly, it was what you can do to improve the unit doing "self-help projects" [painting is one thing; however, rebuilding and rewiring offices and putting in drop ceiling are something else]. We were doing that on "on-duty" time and weekends while the trained people who were downtown building Jimmy Carter houses for the local community.

My last assignment I was in a manning E-8 position with six other E-8s . The unit was authorized only ONE [1] E-8 meaning 5 of us were excess. I couldn't go anywhere for I had recently returning from overseas.

The reason to join the military for me was training and financial security for me and my family. Today, that doesn't exist--Changes in retirement, medical and the overall treatment by power hungry supervisors and leaders who are looking out only for themselves.

I did 33 years. It wasn't always fun in fact there were some jobs and locations that I hated. But all in all the decision to join the AF was the best single decision of my life.
If I could do the job again I would be happy but the job moved on and I got old and pretty much useless. I still have fond memories of places I've been and friends I made. I had a good life.

I'm no where near as happy, I was Medically retired after 27yrs, 10mos and 22 days, so right at 28. Was retired July 2015.
I served all that time for America. But since I've been out I've noticed just how unappreciative the people in America are and well let's face it, they definitely don't care about you.
So no, I wouldn't want back In, I've already served for the them, you want my help now you'll have to prove to me that your in it to win it.

I had a lot of good times in the military, travel, good friends etc. A lot of hard times also. I'm way too old to go back in even if I wanted to. And with the current admin, a definite NO.
