Are you going deer hunting?

Ok so some people hunt and some people don't. Each has valid arguments for supporting their position. Sometimes deer hunters don't even get the opportunity to see a deer while in a stand. I know hard to believe if you count the number of deer we see hit by cars. Personally I'd rather see them killed and dressed by a hunter than on the side of the road. I hope everyone who hunts agrees with this. I know there are a few who view deer as nuisance and to them it doesn't matter which way the deer dies.

Now I've gotten off topic, what I want to show you is what one TN farmer is doing to protect his herd during this weekend's deer hunt. So if you're out hunting on someone else's property make sure you don't shoot their livestock (horses and cows). If you see one marked COW or HORSE definitely don't shoot it. :-)

Not this year. The season is over out West anyway. But I am already planning next years Utah hunt.

BTW, we don't use tree stands out west, we cant bait 'em either. We just have to chase them down the old fashioned way.

Knew someone in PA who did the whole "cow" "horse" "pig" etc. paint thing; worked out well with all of his animals surviving hunting season.

His John Deere tractor, though, was shot to doll rags.

I don't know why I see all these silly pictures but they won't distract me. Teriyaki Jerky: Cut the meat into strips. In a bowl combine 1 part soy sauce, 1 part brown sugar, 1 part water and mix well. Get two a couple kiwi and mash them into a pulp after skinning them and add to the bowl. The acid from the fruit will help break down the meat. Add a few drops of sesame oil, garlic powder to taste, fresh grated ginger to taste, and black pepper is optional.

Our deer season go's from Oct. 10 - Dec. 1. But late Nov. is always best. Most big bucks are in the rut by then. Always love to rattle in a big buck or a couple of small ones. No reason to be picky.

My sister's father-in-law had a large farm in Pennsylvania, and he had experienced problems with hunters in his cow pastures.

He said that he made the mistake of painting the word COW on the sides of his cattle to keep them safe during hunting season, but that just made the hunters shoot his tractor.

It was a John Deere.

I like it, it'll save somebodies livestock and a lot of aggravation that's caused by a lot of inexperience hunters and a lot more city hunters who can't tell the difference between the livestock and wild game. But it might help if the paint were maybe in a neon hunter orange or just some neon color that will stick out like a sore thumb.

Note: Our family uses the whole deer, so nothing goes to waste.

I've known other ranchers that did this. I also know first hand of people catching hunters aiming into fields to shoot a cow.

About 40 Years Ago, I Was At A Deer Check Station In Maryland, Checking In My Own Deer And The Man In The Truck In Front Of Me Said He Had A Spike Buck But He Was Baffled By The Odd Color , He Said The Deer Is Mostly White With Some Black And Brown, So I Said It May Be What Is Called A Pie-Bald He Then Lifted Up The Tarp And My Father In-law And Me Started Laughing, He Goes Why Are You Laughing, I Then Told Him Be Prepared To Get A Ticket !
He Shot A Billy Goat !
The Game Warden In Between Laughing And Chewing Him Out Took The Goat And Gave Him A Ticket.
Everyone Who Wants To Hunt Should Take A Hunter Safety Course And Know Exactly What You Are Hunting Look Like.
