Yes. Shoot much? Not likely. They will be rather loose and nowhere near as accurate as my service match 1911. But it will feel richer. I did get a M1 years ago from DCM now called CMP. As it turned out the only used parts were the Winchester receiver and the stock. Everything else was brand new; built in 1964 from the Springfield Armory under contract. Seems a bunch were refurbished to be as new to deal with the Soviet threat. It isn't as accurate as my NM rifles but you feel the history with every shot.Response by CAPT Kevin B. made Nov 10 at 2015 11:44 PM2015-11-10T23:44:53-05:002015-11-10T23:44:53-05:00MSgt Darren VanDerwilt1101169

I have a few friends interseted in this, they like tinkering with firearms and the 1911 is the ultimate tinker gun. Upgrading, refinishing, and parts replacement will likely be the order of the day for these weapons.

When you order from CMP you have little to no choice on what you get. The firearm that arrives could be a collectors piece, a solid shooter, a paperweight, or a mix of these.

Many of the WWII era 1911's, depending on manufacturer, weren't case hardened and estimated to be able to shoot approxemately 5,000 rounds before wearing out. It was determined that it was unlikely that these pistols would see that much use since they're not a primary weapon.

Another factor involves maintenance and repairs. During both World Wars, but most often during WWII, malfunctioning, damaged, and battlefield pickup weapons would go back to armorers depots in the rear. The armorers would dissasemble weapons in mass, distributing the various parts for cleaning and subsequent placing in parts bins. Weapons weren't reassembled using that particular weapons original, worn together, parts. These old war dogs have probably had that happen multiple times over the last seventy years, they were also used in Korea, Vietnam, and for garrison security and training in that time. After WWII the government didn't need any more, they had more than plenty left over.Response by MSgt Darren VanDerwilt made Nov 11 at 2015 12:16 AM2015-11-11T00:16:35-05:002015-11-11T00:16:35-05:00CSM Michael J.
