with so much going on is it realistic to continually pursue unifrom changes on an 3-5yr basis?  the militayr survived decades without change I know the War on Terrorism played larger roles.  However is it necessary to change all uniforms in the service outside fatigues?  the APFT; There is talk of changing ASU's again; also newer and improved garrison uniforms???  Arent we decreasing the force?  Then why are the powers that be so determined to change something they will be issued for free...and the rest of us suffer to pay for.???

I have served through multiple uniform changes, so I have some thoughts on the issue.

I think that the branches should have their own appropriate dress type uniform (but they really should be like the Marines and keep the same one instead of changing them all the time).

For the Desert areas we should have stayed with the 3-toned desert color uniforms like we had back in 2009 (you would blend into the desert a lot better then the current uniform).

For the non-desert areas go back to our time tested camouflage (green, black, brown, etc.) we used for years - they worked fine and you knew it was U.S. Military.

Also, all branches should be in the same uniform (except dress) - there is way too much waste having all these different types of uniforms for the different branches.

I know the Army is going to change the uniform when I have enough of them that I don't need to buy any more.

good answer so true sir i am with ya.  As an OIF I baby going through multiple uniforms and the cost of changing them since I was a latter "Be All that You Can Be" Soldier.  I have just felt the Army was trying to reach corporate level attrition in the form of uniform purchases and contracts...

On this topic, I'm with congress. It's time to adopt common uniforms.  As for PT's, any changes should be to increase durability and comfort, not aesthetics. The ASU's I actually like, but they should have provided personnel with a voucher to recieve a set from clothing sales for free. The clothing allowance is not sufficient to cover a new set of ASU's, whatever maintenance you need to do to your ACU's, and any laundering or alterations you have to do.
