How does it make you feel when you see the American flag used as clothing or in clothing design? Is it disrespectful to the flag or the country?

As long as it is tactfully worn and is not overdone, I don't have a problem with it. The guy in this picture might be overdoing it a bit.

It's technically just a pattern Im sure most people would have more respect and common sense than to actually create an article of clothing from an actual flag. so no if its an american flag patterned shirt or pants, but if joe schmo made a scarf out of an actual flag then i believe a problem is presented

First and for most that outfit is beyond tacky. I would rather be runner over by garbage truck and drown in my own blood than be seen looking that. There is patriotism, and there is just tasteless. Of course what do I know, some designer got a bazillion dollars for making that.

As for offending me, if it is in good taste and modest, no harm no foul. If it looks like some one wrapped themselves up in a flag to go running on the fourth of July yeah it is kind of offensive to me.

Honestly though as long as you're not doing it in a disrespectful manner. Personally I think it's stupid either way, unless you're Cap or Kurt Angle.

I have mixed feelings about it.

If it is worn respectfully, yes!
--If it is a shirt or bandanna, it seems patriotic.
--If it is a bikini or shorts, it seems not respectful--I think it is because one sits on it/wrap around ones nether-region.

As has been pointed out, this is a really an 'iffy' question.
The Flag Code says -the flag- should not be worn as an item of clothing.
But a printed version on a shirt, I guess I'm okay with that.
A flag patch on someone's backside or in a location where it will encounter possible damage, not cool. The outfit the gent is wearing at the start of this thread I would never wear but it's not really a true flag, so, I guess it passes the test. It seems Britons don't mind using the Union Jack in any way possible. I have to add that flag-ish use on paper cups, napkins and the like is something I will never purchase.

Sometimes when I get into a patriotic grey area I just play the National Anthem while grabbing my AR and Colt 1911 in each hand, put on my ACU bottoms w/ Dress Blue top (With full Medals) take a shot of Jack, and I watch the National Geographic documentary on "Eagles"! I don't personally do it (anymore), but I don't feel it's disrespectful, I think it's (intended to be) patriotic. It's the -pattern- of the flag and not an actual flag. (If someone were to make an article of clothing by cutting up or otherwise utilizing an ACTUAL flag, THAT's a different story entirely and I'd be the first in the ass-kicking line with my jack boots on, lol...)

If the level of insensitivity in this country doesn't stop getting out of hand, I'm going to puke. Everytime we turn around, someone is offended by something.

A flag is offensive.

A religious group offends another.

A re-enactment of a historical event pushing another agenda is offensive.

Wearing the American flag is offensive.

When will the insanity stop? It's a shirt, pair of pants, a ball cap or shoes. It's not like the US flag is being worn as a cape by someone looking like the bizarre lovechild of Richard Simmons and Captain America.

This country needs to get back to what's really important. With an election around the corner, knowing the real issues will be the difference in swearing in a President who will get things done or end up with a buffoon that just wants to give us lip service.
