We will be hosting a older man from our church whose wife left him last year.<br />My oldest son [30 years old December 6] is incarcerated at Fort Leavenworth for crimes he did not commit. I expect he will be served a military Thanksgiving meal. In 1986 I had a thanksgiving meal while I was at school at Fort Leavenworth.<br />My next oldest's [28 years old] son's wife left him for another man last year. He lives an hour or so away near the Martinsburg, WV VAMC where I am treated, He may stop by for some food tomorrow evening.<br />My third oldest son [26 years old] is somewhere in Florida.<br />My youngest son [24 years old] lives nearby. He will be working on Thanksgiving. I will try to bring some food to him after work. <br />I hope you are able to enjoy your Thanksgiving with friends and family.<br />God is firmly in control, He knows what each of us can bear and He knows our deepest desires. Every day I ask Him to guide me and He always does. Many times I am surprised by the ways He changes my plans and allows me to bless others. That was when snail mail and an occasional phone patch for 2 minutes were the norm. In some ways it was easier then than my last deployments in the early 2000s. Then you had to turn everything over to the local ground commander vs. the pressure to manage 2 locations you get with web cams etc. You learned quick not to complain when you got home if you wanted the marriage to work. Oh, you don't get any bonus points for shipping your wife up to Adak and then taking off to Cali on your own either. Fortunately it was only for a week or so but it was the thoughtlessness that counted. Being on orders doesn't seem to be much of an excuse. I watched as a Blackhawk landed, the sand causing sparks with the rotor blades in the night. Out came two servers in chefs uniforms carrying food into the large feeding tent. The line was 60 feet long, and the dinner was very satisfying. My crew laid on top of the tank relishing the meal we just had. It was a lot more than we expected.
