Are your Soldiers maxed out on their "Computer Based" promotion points?

With the current promotion system SPC/E-4's are entitled to 78 "computer based" promotion points towards promotion to SGT/E-5 and SGT/E-5's are entitled 84 "computer-based" promotion points towards promotion to SSG/E-6. When I say computer based I'm referring to all non-resident military training including Army Correspondence Course Program (ACCP), Distance Learning, and Army E-learning. I bring this up because I created a spreadsheet laying out the accepted ACCP courses, hours they are worth, number of tests required for completion, and college credit they are worth (if applicable). With the ratio being 5 ACCP hours to 1 promotion point it requires 420 hours to be "maxed out" on the computer based section of the military education point bracket. What I have found in my unit for example there are only 2 out of the 15 SPC have these points maxed out. The others woudl rather watch movies than do these courses and get credit for them. Even when I show them that this can help make up the difference in points for not going to WLC.

As a promotable Specialist, you are the role model for the other Specialists within your organization. I'm assuming you have maxed out your computer based promotion points, if so, way to lead by example. In regards to your last sentence, when it comes to promotion points NCOES schools, resident training i.e. CLS, Combatives, etc), and computer based training are three seperate brackets and can not transfer from one to another. While maxing out computer based will give you 78 or 84 respectively, the Soldiers will still have to attend WLC to earn the NCOES school promotion points. Soldiers used to do insane amounts of Correspondence Courses (CC) and cover all three brackets with CC alone, the new system does not allow this. Thank you for the feedback.

I understand that is how it used to be load up on CC. What I meant to say is that the majority of soldiers that went to WLC ignore the CC because they think they have enough points.

Another equally if not more important question you should ask yourself as well as others as the focus has shifted over the years; is yourself as well as all of the Soldiers you have influence over enrolled in some type of continuing education program? I.e. Associates, bachelors, certificates.
I pose this question to you because a great leader told me one time to always prepare as if I was getting out of the Army. In today's military, the opportunity for everyone may not be there for a 20 year retirement. So you need to prepare yourself and help others do the same in the event that day comes earlier than expected.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. It's always good to see senior NCO's concerned about Soldiers' lives and careers. And I agree completely with what you are saying. I am not saying one is more important than another, both are essential for promotion in the ranks. I was just trying to provide assistance with the ACCP. I always encouraged my Soldiers to enroll in classes and stressed the importance of higher education. I was previously a 19K and loved having Soldiers to lead. I am currently in a detachment where I am the 2nd lowest ranking Soldier so my opportunities to help young Soldiers has become an online mentorship. Again, thank you for the feedback.

You're doing good things, I simply wanted to add that into it. It is truly a shame though when you don't see people with their military ed maxed out (Obviously deployments etc might play into it) but for the garrison Soldier or the one who is not on rotation, there really is no excuse. The ones who don't have them maxed out are normally the ones who complain about not getting promoted too. Not too often do you see the Soldier complain when they know in their heart, they have done everything they can do, but points haven't comes down.
I would however, like a copy of your excel sheet. As a recruiter I come in contact with a lot of fellow recruiters who might only be E-5's. This may benefit them. Please forward when you can. [login to see] .
