Long time coming...
I especially like the R&D they have done to address standardization and common sense point observation the test to make doing or observing the test more consistent.
Minimal equipment needed, and easy to lay out and standardize anywhere in the world you need to give the test.
Look at the T Push up event.. no more "you did not not go low enough"

Or "I cant go any lower"
The shuttle event.. simplifying the standards https://www.facebook.com/L.I.GdaPREZ305/videos/ [login to see] 30812/
"Did that count, he did not cross the line when he picked up the kettle bells"
Answer '... Not required the kettle bells are across the line and he is required to get them..if he picked them up, he crossed the line.

About time the Army tries something new, instead of accepting the status quo when it comes to the PT test.

The stumbling block was the directive to make the new test equipment free as is the APFT.
And those charged with developing the new program simply couldn’t come up with something that worked to meet the goals.
I don’t know which senior leader finally put his foot down and said this is stupid we can afford for 5000 pull up bars dead lift bar‘s kettle bell‘s etc. just figure out what works but somebody was some pool got convinced and from there things rocketed forward.

Some GO used some common sense and realized that leaders can't be short changing training. We all know the Army's most vital asset is the soldier. A healthy and physically fit human performs better in most stressfull situations than a sub physically fit human. Also, focusing on proper PT may reduce health care cost for vets and retirees when injuries are due to PT and not combat related.
I think taking the 1st step to improve APFT is what matters, later on they can tweek it. Because to many units are focus on PT scores than unit readiness.

This ACRT makes sense. The movements that will be performed directly correlate with the demands of our profession. Not only that, but incoming Soldiers will be somewhat familiarized with the deadlift event, as they've seen it during the OPAT. My only concern is implementing a standard on said deadlifts to ensure an injury-free event. Besides that, the gender neutral grading system and challenging maximum times/reps places a point of pride for those who may max it. I look forward to a more physically capable force, and the test that will determine that.

We will see what actually happens there can be a lot of change between it comes out and it is implemented. I do like that it will be one standard for everyone and it looks like it will be very easy to grade take a lot of go lower out and that is a good thing. I hope that they do it right it will not be a quick or easy change but it could be a very good change.
