How difficult is it for an ARNG to transfer to 19th or 20th SFG?

I am Active Duty USNC making the jump to ARNG this summer. After I transfer over I want to pursue a shot at SFRE and SFAS and move to the 19th or 20th SFG. Has anyone done this? How much of an administrative headache am I potentially looking at?

The Army National Guard’s 19th and 20th Special Forces Groups give you the opportunity to be elite in your civilian life and your military life. Members of both units maintain the same certifications and qualifications, complete the same training, and perform the same missions as Active Duty Green Berets. All are qualified parachutists—and most are qualified free-fall (HALO) parachutists and combat divers.

Guard Special Forces live throughout the United States and train with their units one weekend (three to four days) per month, plus an additional two to four weeks of training per year. Deployments are also less frequent, generally once every two to three years for six to 15 months, allowing Guard Green Berets to live as both civilians and Special Forces team members.

Plenty of friends that were in 20th - good opportunity as is 19th. *Win - Win* scenario, being able to excel both in and out of uniform. Well worth the time spent on paperwork/admin. 11th and 12th were also great options, alas they are no more. During the pre-SFAS era when the original starting point was Phase I, NG and USAR often did as well as AD. Good luck!

If you want to be a flash qualified green beanie, same same quals as being in the Active groups. I If you want to be a member, but not an operator, check with recruiters to see if they have any openings on their B and C teams for your MOS / grade.
