As a 25S, how likely is it that I will be stationed in Fort Hood if I request that on my "dream sheet" as my first duty station?

Fort Hood is a pretty easy assignment to get. That being said, assignments are at the needs of the Army and anything can happen. Just depends on how much branch wants to work with you.

Well, it is Fort Hood. The largest base in the Continental US. I'm sure they need a lot of soldiers. However, that question would best be directed to your Branch Manager.

Depends on if you are trained in tac or strat...if you are strat it's unlikely if tac you have a good chance at getting it.

Hello private Kim I would like to give an answer tied to your MOS now. So your MOS is divided into two fields Strategic (indoors 30+ft antennas) and Tactical(out doors 8 ft antenna). How this works is in AIT you will have a slightly longer AIT for those selected to go Strategic. To my knowledge Fort Hood does not have a strategic satellite communications site. Before you pull strings to get into the Tactical assignment be aware those of us who went Strategic have far better post military careers because the equipment is commercial off the self and you will work with more contractors and vendors who can set you up with a job.

As a 25S, I really enjoy the job. I'm NG, but have completed IST to work with Phoenix and gain deployment experience. My understanding with AD, your duty station is based on 1.) needs of military 2.) maritial status 3.) your level of competency...learn your job, do it well, and you will open up options.

Probably fairly good. I don't know of too many people that actually request FT Hood, and there are two ESBs (62d and 57th) there not including all the maneuver units that may have 25S positions.

It’s just as easy to get to Hood as any other large base. If it is your first assignment, you are going where they need you.

It's a pretty good bet. I was there for th whole time I was in. I would however highly suggest going somewhere else. Depends on your unit

Pray for the 57th ESB, they train all the time, when i was there it was expected to out perform the CAV units. 57th has a good group of soldiers. I am bless to have served with such good people.

I think 3rd Sig Bde is still there, at least during my tour of Hood. Since 4ID moved to Carson I'm not sure how many slots 1st Cav would have, IF any. This new modularity design could open opportunites in 3rd ACR if they are still there. But, overall it's possible, but I'm out of the loop on the Hood experience as of late.

I don’t have much experience yet however, I put Fort Carson on my ASK and on my wishlist in ACT. As of 2 weeks ago, I have projections to Carson and should be heading there as soon as I finish AIT. The answer is always no until you ask!
