As a 91B, can I get 92A as a secondary MOS? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/as-a-91b-can-i-get-92a-as-a-secondary-mos <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am a 91B and have been doing SAMS1-E (92A) for the last three years since we don&#39;t have a slot. Do any of you know if me and the fellow 91B who have been doing can get awarded it as a secondary MOS. I&#39;m thinking of going Chief and I know 92A looks good in the maintenance world. Yes and no. There are two ways of going about it. 1) you get with branch and your retention person, request to change your MOS to 92A. This will require paperwork, release from the ordnance branch and a school date in AIT for 92A. Once you graduate AIT you will be awarded the MOS but it will become your primary MOS and 91B your secondary. This of course is easily rectified by a 4187 requesting an MOS change. This is a very lengthy process and requires a lot of moving pieces. Your second option is to beat up branch about being awarded 92A as your secondary MOS. this will require you to take a test most likely. You will have to prove your proficiency as a 92A. If you fail to score adequately you will most likely be required to attend AIT if you still want to go forward with the MOS change. The benefit of the second option is you can potentially avoid AIT and 92A will be awarded to you as a secondary MOS. bottom line to either option...you need to contact branch and your retention NCO. They will have the exact steps you need to take and be able to walk you through the process. Hope this is helpful. Being a SAMS-E operator on its own does not qualify you to be a 92A, the actual MOS encompasses far more. Awarding MOS's isn't that simple. In order to reclassify, you would definitely need to attend a resident MOS course for the one you're pursuing. First, you would also have to be overstrength in your current MOS as well as the other MOS being under strength and needing people to fill. Next, once you complete the resident training, that new MOS would be granted as your Primary, not Secondary, because the Army is not going to spend money and time to train you at a MOS producing school if you're not going to use it. Further down the road you could request to switch back to 91B as your primary or just hold the 92A until you decide to go Warrant. Although when you decide to go Warrant, you usually have to complete ALC in the MOS that feeds into the Warrant branch you're pursuing. Don&#39;t worry about a secondary MOS, a 91B is all the MOS that you need. As a 91B you are expected to know how to run a SAMSE/G-Army box. When you become a Motor SGT, you are expected to know all aspects of what your 92A does on a daily basis. No Chief Warrant Officer wants to hear that work orders didn&#39;t get closed, services didn&#39;t get updated, man-hours were not logged, parts weren&#39;t picked up and processed, key control wasn&#39;t straight, ARIMS was updated......etc....just because the 92A was on duty or on leave. As the 91B, we expect you to hop in and perform those roles because guess what, as a Warrant Officer, that&#39;s what&#39;s expected of us and whole lot more. Go to the SAMSE and G-Army operator an supervisor courses if available and continue to balance your total maintenance and logistics workload and then one day you will be ready to put in that WOCS packet. Have a officer under that MOS give you an evaluation for the experience and turn it in to the TRADOC School for that MOS SFC Kenneth Hunnell Fri, 29 Apr 2016 17:28:08 -0400 2016-04-29T17:28:08-04:00 Response by SGT Jason Murphy made Apr 30 at 2016 8:35 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/as-a-91b-can-i-get-92a-as-a-secondary-mos?n=1490703&urlhash=1490703 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>You could definitely give it a shot. What may happen is you might have to reclass into that MOS, worst case scenario. OR get with your Warrant Offcer( best bet in my opinion ) and see if you can get some OJT ( on the job training ) . At least when I was serving, I witnessed two Soldiers acquire a new MOS slot close to theirs by receiving OJT within the unit. Also note to self, there will no longer be a SAMS-1E with the transitioning to GCSS-ARMY (Wave 2) so you would have to go through all new training/certification.
