The only common reason to get one more often than annual is if you have a change of rater. Learn the NCO Creed and do your best to live it every day. Generally your NCOER should be on the anniversary of your date of promotion. The date can change based on a number of variables. You need to find out who your first line rater is going to be and have them to outline your expected responsibilities in your NCOER Support form. That way you have defined goals to shoot for. Every 90 days you are supposed to have an azimuth check with your rater to ensure you're tracking on your goals. Don't be a jerk but bring it up tactfully if it does not happen. If it gets to six months and you haven't had this counseling session, be more insistent this time. Keep note in a green book or electronically of things you have done to meet your goals. Also keep track of your APFT & AWQ, any classes you attend military or civilian. Also Any awards you may receive, medals, certificates, General Officer notes or coins. When it gets close to your anniversary then provide your list of the above to your rater and tell them you are looking forward to your review. Remember, nobody will look out for you career any better than you yourself. Becoming a NCO was one of the proudest days of my military career. Hope this helps, good luck. Hope this helps you a little. You should also be receiving quarterly counselings from your rater that are annotated on your support form which are supposed to guide you in meeting/exceeding your raters expectations of you. Unfortunately, in the reserves this does not happen very often. I'd have a talk with your rating chain as well to help you better understand the process. They are your leaders so make them lead. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 12 Feb 2016 01:31:21 -0500 2016-02-12T01:31:21-05:00 Response by SGT David A. Your NCOER would run from 1 Aug- 31 Jul if they pinned you on the day of your orders. My question to you though would be, did you get a initial counseling? By this time now you should have also received two quarterly counseling. Just from your questions I would be concerned as a outsider looking in that your unit has a complete failure of senior NCO leadership and Company Commander leadership. This should never have been a question that you needed to ask as your rater should have explained this in your first initial counseling. Congrats on your promotion, as you move up in the ranks, learn from the failures of your leaders and never pass those failures on to the soldiers that you supervise. NCOERs are annual evaluation so you should get your first NCOER July 31, 2016. What you need to keep on track is you should receive your first "initial" counseling as an NCO 90 days after your promotion orders. Then expect to receive another counseling every 90 days afterwards and that should serve your quarterly counseling.
