I am a prior service Marine and am about to join the National Guard as a 12B while I go through my college ROTC program. Your recruiter should be able to tell you for sure. The rules say if you have been out less than three years, you do not have to attend BCT, just your MOS school. 12B's are a One Station Unit Training MOS, so the normal school is 14 weeks, figure 16 with reception and clearing the post. They usually drop prior service that aren't required to redo BCT in around week 8. I know to reclass ton12b is just like 3 weeks. And I don’t think you have to go back through basic unless you’ve been out a long time. In my AIT portion we had a cat from the marine corps and he just had to fall in in the morning when we went to class but never had to do anything else with us. A lot of policies have changed recently.

For Marine Corps prior service normally you will skip BCT or Basic portion of OSUT. If your break in service is beyond 5 years you are required to go to basic training again. However, you can ask your recruiter to fill out an ETP (exemption to policy) to basic training.

You'll have to write a personal statement why you think you don't need to go again. You have to enlist first and be in the RSP (Recruit Sustainment Program) where all the new kids prepare to go to basic training. You will drill with RSP. Your recruiters will pick a basic training ship date far out so that it will give you time to get your ETP approved. If your ETP gets approved, you won't go to basic training and will check in with your unit. We have many prior service Marines in my unit and my E-7 is prior marine. What will happen is when you enlist in the NG they will send you to Fort Leonard Wood Mo and you will complete your AIT there.
