As a Reserve 70D, what are some upward opportunities I should pursue, and how should I prepare for them?

I'm coming back from a break in service. Previously a 25B SGT who was accepted and direct commissioned in as a 70D. I'm not necessarily concerned with the job as I believe I'm more than capable of the tasks. But, I did some preliminary research on the upward opportunities and may have been looking at the wrong AOC?? I'm trying to find any reserve 70D CPT or above that might be willing to educate me on what and how I need to prepare.

I'm not 70D, but you are aware the USAR CPT vacancies nation wide can be counted on your hands..
Good job on getting a direct commission in such an AOC.

Thank you for the quick response and unfortunate news! I don't want to sound out of line for asking. But, I had a 9 year break in service (previous 12 years enlisted) and noticed in my orders I was granted an age waiver, so assume I'm going to be pushed up against some walls. I saw on the HRC site officers are automatically presented to the board and if overlooked 2x for CPT then the discharge process is started.
I'm not sure what is in force or by exception and want to make sure I'm taking the right steps!

Well, you will certainly make 20 years with 12 prior. It will take upwards of 5 years from 1LT to make CPT, and then another 7 in CPT to come up in the primary zone for MAJ. Agreed, you are up against the wall for LTC as I am. I'm a 48yo newly minted CPT, and only have 11 years to make LTC when the MAJ and LTC boards are coming up at 7 years. So I need aggressive below the zone selections.

So there are a lot of slots open for maj/ltc and 2 open slots at col. Most 70Ds on the reserve get out at Maj so I wouldn't sweat the slot dynamic.
Second thing to know, and you should be in contact with your career manager. It is extremely hard to be released from AMEDD , and if you contract as a 70d , your primary designator will always be 70D no matter if you do Hotel school as an example
So what is your concern slots? And or the location of these slots?

I just noticed, after checking in at my unit, no one really knew what to do with me. Then I found out I was replacing a CPT that was retiring.
Primary concern is just making sure I'm on top of my career and know how AMEDD functions.

Welcome to the world of 70D in the reserve side.
A lot of units do not know what a 70D does. It will be your job to educate and inform. Do not let them make you a help desk officer ;)
LTC (Join to see) is our consultant and I bet she might have someone she can pair you up with.
I would volunteer myself but I am in a 01A position in the innovation command as a tech scout. so I am sorta disconnected from our fellow 70Ds in the reserve side.

I doubt you're wrong there are a ridiculous amount of questions concerning 70D direct Commission and most people say they either are not accepting DR or that th promotions are underwhelming
