As a soldier in the MT National Guard can I live and work in Canada?

I am considering applying for a job within my company that is about 4 hours north of the border. Is there any rule saying I can't do this as long as I make it to drill every month?

I Have Know folks who have driven 6-7 Hours one way to make drill weekends
as Long as you employer knows you in the guard and your Company Commander knows You are Living out of state /Country there should be No problem

SPC Private RallyPoint Member When I was a police officer I had a fellow officer that would drive back to Illinois to drill (about 4-5 hours) until they would grant his release to the MO Air Guard.

I'm digging into my mental file box and am aware of two things. First, I presume your company is a US based outfit that just happens to have an office in Canada. Good for your USERRA thing. The second thing to take a look at is if there is any foreign interest you're involved in that's reportable from a conflict or security perspective. It's always best to check with JAG and the Security Office verify there isn't a problem. That way you avoid hidden land mines. Lots of folk flip over the borders for their jobs so if you get a Seabee Salute (shrugged shoulders), then your resources are faulty. They are expected to know this stuff. BTW it isn't a call by the internal CoC on whether or not they like the idea of where you work either. One warning. Expect to have things go into the toilet at the border at some point when you need to make your drill on occasion. Be prepared to offset it when it happens.

I manage a Reserve Unit in MT and in the past, we have had Canadian Citizens serve in our unit, so I would not think it would be an issue, but you should keep your Chain of Command informed.

If you hold a security clearance I would check in with your S-2. If you don't, then yes you can.
