As an infantryman who is trying to get deployed, can I contact other infantry units to go along for a ride?

Can I contact other infantry units and go for a ride along? Be it a reserve, active or guard unit?

If money is the concern, your best bet it to call branch and talk to a retention NCO. Have you thought about switching to Active Duty? at least being active duty you can check the patch chart and see whos on it and going downrange and request to PCS to that assignment. I am glad to see those who are trying to deploy since I have seen my fair share of those who try and dodge them and still get promoted. Good luck and God Speed.

Thanks for the the support ssg. Yea, i have thought about going active, i just want to get a check and some benefits like i signed up for, But they dont tell you is reserves only get partial of everything. I just wanna finish out my last 2 years with a bang so to speak. I appreciate your insight ssg!

It is a shame, I am in a engineering battalion and have seen 3 of my fellow specs dodge out of they're deployment. One who joined for a green card, who cannot go because he's needs to care for his mother who cant speak english apparently. Haha

SPC (Join to see) - My advice is to ask your Career Counselor about switching to active duty. You may just like it and decide to stay in. I know people say that there's not many jobs out there for us infantry when we get out but you would be surprised. Most of the good jobs require you to have X amount of time though for your experience. BUT REMEMBER THIS; its not about just getting a check and some benefits. Its more then that. To me personally at least its more then a check and benefits. Its a way of life and a calling. Not many can do what we do (we meaning everyone in the military).

I said below that contacting Branch would be a starting place...seeing now that you're reserve and in an engineer unit, I would really suggest going with the advice above and look at going active and get some train-up first. Deploying isn't something you want to do "for the money" and it damn sure isn't the place to be without a little time with the guys you're deploying with if you can help it.

I've had plenty of friends deploy and not come back, so you wanting to "do it for the money" is kind of a shit thing to say. You want to get paid to go down range? Get a job with Constellis or something.

Dude, you don't need to try to deploy. Deployment will come for you eventually. Why does it matter if it's a month or a year from now? Do you want to be a hero or something? Just wait your turn.
