SPC Private RallyPoint Member 4451762 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I have 9 months left of my 6 year reserve drilling. With 2 more years IRR. I will be attending a six month police academy soon and not be able to attend drill. Should I ask to go IRR early or general discharge? I would graduate the same month my drilling would end. Any advice is appreciated as most of my unit NCOs are not very helpful unless your a favorite. Thanks! Why are you still a PFC though? Stay in!! If you want to hang it up that&#39;s fine, but just make up the drill days now so you fulfill your service obligations and you can go to the police academy no problem. It&#39;s a win on both fronts. Might as well get that pay too Response by SSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 15 at 2019 3:27 PM 2019-03-15T15:27:27-04:00 2019-03-15T15:27:27-04:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 4452156 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I don&#39;t think reneging on your enlistment contract is a good start for a career that also prioritizes loyalty and commitment. You&#39;re already almost 90% done with your six-year enlistment in the reserves. Why not just finish it out and then go to the police academy? You have a valid reason, it&#39;s training for another government career field.<br /><br />I don&#39;t have the experience with discharges to speak from firsthand experience, but you&#39;ll probably either end up with a general discharge or an other than honorable (probably the former) just stay in and get the honorable discharge, it looks better and you&#39;ve basically earned it. Surely they have some work at the Reserve Center that needs to be done. (RST is Rescheduled Training) or ask to go IRR earlier if that won&#39;t work with your current work schedule. My daughter is about to report to the Police Academy and all she is doing is hitting the gym. Do not take the general discharge route. Best of Luck! Do you have any thoughts of 20 years or are you done? This would make a difference. If you plan on doing 20 then I would suggest going to your command and request an alternative drilling. Most reserve and NG units will work with you in this regard.
