At Fort Riley, is it better to live on post or off post?

Loved living on post at Riley. House was super nice. Lived off post shortly in manhattan, hated the drive to work an back.

I was there three years ago and moving on post is a smart idea since there are only three ways to on post and the traffic is backed up after 06:30 and in the winter it can take as much as two hours to go four miles. If you don't want to risk missing formation, "Move on Post".

There is nowhere good to live in Fort Riley. Call branch and see if they can send you to Korea.

I was stationed at Riley for 5 years, lived on and off post. I loved living on post. 1st the housing is very nice with a lot of brand new housing that was just built. 2) living on post avoids the traffic that builds up at the gate, don’t get me wrong there’s still a little traffic for pt, work call, and COB. But not as much as sitting at the gate. 3) the housing community centers are great with pools, basketball courts, close to gyms, etc.

I lived in Manhattan the 3 years I was there. It wasn't that bad of a drive except in the snow. I never once was late for formation either even after I had my daughter and dropped her off at a babysitter on post.

I personally like living on post as it reduces my drive time, and it is safer for the kids.

I like my place in Manhattan. Don't live in JC, though. Christ, that place has some crazy laws.

There are 2 ways to look at it. Closer to and "not on base housing". I lived in Manhattan and on base. The best answer in just my opinion is on base. You are closer to work, when it snows and it does you don't have to drive in it back home, assuming you live in Manhattan bnot junction City or Ogden. That road gets bad. Other then the drive. I enjoyed living in Manhattan alot.

I think it is always better to live off post, better quality of life at the end of the day.
