I bought a set of noise cancelling headphones last week with a gift card I received for Christmas. Overall I like them, but when listening to music, audiobooks, etc at low volume I notice a subtle squeal (more accurately it sounds a little like someone scratching a record) on the left side. It's pretty subtle, but it can get distracting at times. I thought maybe it was some type of feedback from the noise cancelling feature (it only makes that sound when that feature is activated), but I'm not sure why it would only happen on one side. Does this sound normal?

I don't think so. I know that the jack I plug into my computer can be touchy, and if it isn't perfectly plugged in it can cause some weird static through the headphones. What kind did you buy?

MDR-XB950N1 from Sony. That aren't exactly Bose quality, but they don't cost Bose prices either.

CPT (Join to see) Might try a different input source and see if the problem follows - if yes, then it's some characteristic of the headphones. If the problem doesn't follow, then it's the original source. If the problem does persist, can you check with the vendor and try a different pair? Just an old trouble shooters .02 Good luck.

Nope, but then again I mostly use my NC headphones for when I am doing loud stuff, mowing, woodworking etc.
