Seems bogus to me, but then again, I'm not a marine. Thoughts?

SPC(P) (Join to see), I could see this being real. Not everyone is cut out for military service, and even though he completed boot camp and was at his first assignment ... I'm sure he's not the first and he won't be the last service member to go AWOL.

A form to sign? Perhaps an Article 15 or a Court Martial?

Chief, ive been in for 10 years, seen my fair share of others getting the Art. 15, read the stories of service members going AWOL, I got this article off of Military.com, because 95% of the articles i see on there are already posted on here lol. Its hard to find something new to read on here is all.

I know what you mean. This place is sometimes like a news ticker. The news broke yesterday about the former Marine being freed in Mexico, and it was on here in minutes - and not just once!

True. Another excuse for that article, is because It appears 90% of posters on this site have a higher intellect than me, i try not to come up with a topic by myself unless its something simple lol

SPC(P) (Join to see) - Yes, I have no issues realizing that there are some exceptionally bright folks here (or they are really good with Google, either way), it is what keeps things really lively!

There is no such thing as an I don't want to serve anymore form. If someone comes back, they will likely take an Art 15 or CM, and begin to be processed out. If they do not come back, they will eventually get picked up and brought back. I have brought several back. I do not see the SM being held, as he will just leave again.
The truth is that serving is not for everyone, but....you volunteered, finish your service with honor.

While I believe everything you stating, it's just hard to comprehend why someone would go UA from the Air Force. Was the golf course not manicured enough? The pillows too fluffy?

No there is no such form, my grandfather's friend's 2nd cousin's wife's father told me that they retired that form back during the Vietnam era.... now you have to fill out a BA-1100N and get and ID-10T form signed by three doctors instead.
