I would do your research on the area -- if near a large military base, one thing to ask yourself is, what is the future force size that I would expect at this base, also based on what you may be reading in publicly available statements from your branch. For example, what if you are PCS'ing to Fort Hood, and you know they are tripling the size of the force there on base? That would give me more confidence in buying, as compared to if they were cutting the size of the force in half. Other than this, I would get in touch early on with advisors at a company like PenFed and get their thoughts on buying vs renting, for your unique circumstances.
