What worked for me was my passion for the Space program. I used that to set goals of working, going to school, obtaining my degree, and then working on the Space program. My sense of purpose along with my passion allowed me to work for the Space Shuttle program from start of the program to the final Space Shuttle flight, Atlantis, July, 2011. It was only in the later years of my career, that I learned the value of networking. Before that, I though of it as more of sucking up to people, since some people did that to advance their careers.
