It was announced today that the investigation for Sgt. Bergdahl has been concluded. What do you think is going to come out of the review process?

The Army said Thursday it has completed an investigation into Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's disappearance from a base in Afghanistan five years ago.

More than likely nothing. At best, he'll get an honorable discharge with some severance pay.

The article states that the investigation has been completed, but is not being released. My first question is does that mean it's not being released, period, or it's not being released, YET. If it is being held for review PRIOR to release, then I see no issue with it (even though it states the review will likely be lengthy). If it's NOT to be released, then I think that is going to raise even more questions. As to what will happen, hard to say without knowing what was found during the investigation. Once again, we are left with more questions than answers.

1LT Private RallyPoint Member, I tend to agree with SSG Private RallyPoint Member on this. What I think will come out of the review process is a politically correct response, somewhere between saving face for President Obama and what should (in my opinion) happen. He should probably be punished in some way for walking away from his post. The President kind of "gushed" about Bergdahl in his Rose Garden speech. Somewhere between those two opposite ends of the spectrum is where it will likely fall out.

I think that the fact that is not going to be released will help answer any questions about how fair and complete it is...which is not at all and not at all. If there was any doubt, look at the long list of other witnesses in the investigation or the picture of 'SSG' in his uniform shirt. As least the picture did not include him holding a broom...maybe it should have (?)...as they try to sweep this under the rug.

Dear 1LT Private RallyPoint Member.

There will be a report in a drawer and later an archival box full of other reports about some really bad stuff that happened over five years ago. Whether media gets their hands on it . . . and blasts it all over media for ratings . . . not because they care about what happened . . . is just up to another Bradley Manning . . . both of them are the worst traitors who betrayed our deepest trust . . . and by numerous accounts cost way too many of our colleagues lives.

That he deserted his unit. Although he was a PFC at te time, he really couldn't give any good intelligence other than tactical (which is what he only knew as a PFC). He should get a dishonorable but the Army will go higher than that and give him something honorable because he was held captive for 5 years. Like I said in another thread when he was exchanged.....the brass has been told that this needs to go away very quietly

I think nothing will happen.

I think that he will be allowed to "retire" in the near future. Collect near 100% disability and get a book deal that will be turned into a made for TV movie or a feature film.

I would like to see him incarcerated. I hear Ft. Leavenworth is nice this time of year.

I loathe that individual at my deepest core. I was in Afghanistan when it happened and some of my battles came back broken and damaged because of him. I guess I will just leave it at that and hope justice is served in the end.

There is not a chance in hell that this guy gets prosecuted. It would be too close to admitting a mistake.
Future quote: "we have investigated the facts of the matter, and we are implementing processes to prevent future occurances... Hey look! Ebola!"

Look, this has already been investigated, and a finding of desertion was made. The only thing new is whatever story he had to tell. While I am curious to hear what he has to say, if he has any sense whatsoever, he will shut up and fade into obscurity, soaking up benefits and whiling away his days in disgrace.

As I have stated all along he will be medically discharged so the administration can spare itself any humiliation. Then it will fade in to obscurity no questions being asked. No court-martial no bad conduct just 100% disability.

Ma'am, Probably a good time to note there was more than likely already an investigation completed, when he first disappeared, which determined he was AWOL, abandon his post, and further determined it was an intentional act on his part. Just surmising, but I find it impossible to believe no investigation would have been done when a Soldier was not available to redeploy with his unit.

I cannot imagine this investigation would find or produce any contradictory information to the aforementioned. I also remember Soldiers died looking for him. Consequently, my questions are: At what point does political agenda overshadow the loss of life looking for a deserter and probable traitor? When does dishonorable service become honorable? Finally, and most importantly how do we apologize to the honorable Veterans who served with him who spoke out and told what they new, but were chastised by the executive branch as being "wrong?" Which brings up, how can witnesses who were there and whose stories corroborate each other, be wrong?

Troubling times.

It's truly pathetic how someone like this can just walk away without any real repercussions after surely giving the enemy intelligence on the other troops he served with. Worst kind of scumbag traitor having willingly given information to the enemy that ended up in multiple fatalities that probably would never have occurred otherwise.

I think the results will be increased safety standards across the board, and it's about time too. All active duty personnel will have to complete PME about the importance of not going for long walks in Afghanistan alone without your weapon. It's a mistake any one can make, but a dangerous one.
