Without going into ANY specifics, list your favorite Operation name. I have only had the opportunity to name one Operation in my time, and I named it Operation SNAKE PLISKIN.

What's your favorite? Did you get to name one?

Post Vietnam era and prior to the GWOT and 911 era, Brave Shield I, II... with 7th ID comes to mind. This operation was conducted in 1977, 1978, 1979 and beyond in the back 40 of Ft. Irwin, Edwards Air Force Base, Barstow/Daggett Air Field, and Twenty Nine Palms, Ca. During this period are listed below were some of the US Government key leadership at the time and their challenges.

President Carter,
Sec of State Cyrus Vance,
Sec of Defense Harold Brown,
Sec Army Clifford Alexander Jr.

Camp David Accords and the Arab-Israeli Peace Process; Egypt's Anwar Sadat, Israel's Menachem Begin.
Restructuring NATO; Threats from Baader Minehof and Red Army Faction...German gangs
Russia invades Afghanistan;SALT II, Détente and Nuclear issues;
Panama Canal issues
Arms Control issues
US Budget and cutting Defense spending but making Trident Nuke Subs...
Middle East and Terrorism; Shah of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, Western Hostage Crisis and 444 days of captivity.

For those stationed in Germany, lots of alerts.

Operations like Brave Shield demonstrated US military capacity in a desert environment, and set the stage for Ft. Irwin to become a National Training Center, NTC. Gotta paint those rocks...

I had to prepare a briefing for my Brigade Commander and I named the operation Mustang Flex after reading an article called the 25 least inspiring military operation names. Best part, nobody questioned the name.
