Hello to all group members
I am planning a 5 foot by 12 foot HO layout against two walls in my garage. It will be modern era, freelance with a lot of switching. It will eventually have folding extensions so I can get my SUV in the garage. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

The garage layout went out with the trash. There is a Jacobs ladder into the attic from the garage. Pulled the ladder down one day to put something in the attic. So much for that layout. I now have a plan for a shelf layout (HO) in what was my office. being retired means the office can be put a better use. If anyone wants to see the plan I can upload it. It will be a freelance design based very loosely on San Diego.

Took a friend to several locations along the San Diego Bay industrial area on Saturday so he could see a few things I want to model. He will be starting a design for me because he has a great deal more experience than I do with layout design. Two of the things I want are a cement transfer facility and a Container facility.

PO2 Peter Klein, I don't have any immediate suggestions at this point. However, my mid-tern goal is to build an HO layout. Since I was a child I built HO scale armored vehicles, airplanes, and collected figures and buildings. I noticed that you had tagged Model Railroading as an interest when we connected today. I am hopeful one of my other connections may respond with some good advice.

Colonel, I am getting some good information from Iain Rice's Kalmbach book "Compact Layout Design." Not so much track layouts and where industries should go, but things to consider before actually getting to that stage. Things like minimum radii, minimum switch number and what types of layout work in a compact space. I have written a lot of it down so I don't forget.
