Best places to live while stationed at Ft Hood?

If I were to pcs to ft hood what are the best places to live off post. I am married and have 4 young children and heard of the craziness that goes on near and on ft hood. Is the post as dangerous as they say or is it hype, I know to stay away from killeen but what are the safe areas?

I actually loved it at Ft Hood. Every place is what you make of it. I lived on and off post, however, I liked it better on post because the traffic is crazy there during pt and work hours.

I liked Kempner, it was far enough way to get me away from the stupid stuff and close enough that the drive in wasn't bad.

If you're going to live off post I would reccomend Harker Heights. It's around 30 min to a lot of the neighborhoods, but well worth it. It's not only nice and cleaner, but that is where most of the shopping and restaurants are as well.

I don’t remember Fort Hood post to be dangerous to live there. However, anywhere is better than Killeen though.

I lived in the country. Had a place in Lampasas. Quiet and peaceful. Easy access to Austin. Direct route in and out of Fort Hood.

Cooeras Cove or Temple is a good spot. Lots of nice homes and Apts.
