Although it is about the CIA more than the military, it could still be considered a military movie. It is complex and I think it didn't do well in theaters because audiences really have to pay attention to understand what is going on and need to know something about Cold War history and geography. I have watched it a dozen times and I have seen something I missed every time. It's full of one-liners too. Anyone in the military who has had to deal with the pencil-necks in DC can appreciate it. It really is scary to think about an in flight hijacking like that but when you fast forward to 911 you can see how much that film gives away.
