Promoted to CPL, SGT, SSG there during my two tours with the Regiment. I learned to Soldier (we were Troopers) there and I learned the leadership skills as a young NCO that carried me to the end of my career. I believe the one thing that stands out the most is this. It didn't matter what your MOS was (Scout, Tanker, Cook, Mechanic, Clerk, Medic) if you assigned to the Regiment, you were a CAV Troop. We knew that one was not worth a damn without the support of the others at some point in time. This tradition was not exclusive to the 11th ACR, but all CAV Units (2nd and 3rd ACR) as well.

We believed our mission guarding the Border between East and West Germany was the most important mission in the Army. We spent the majority of our time in the field and away from home (Border Duty, FTX, Annual and Off-season gunnery, ARTEPs, REFORGER, etc). The more we got, the more we wanted...Afterwards and in-between we played as hard as we trained!

After departing and moving on to other infamous units in the XVIII Abn Corps, I found they were also damn good units, great Soldiers, NCOs and Leaders, however, no where was like it was in the CAV.

I am an Active Life Member of the 11th ACR Association and attend annual Reunions every opportunity, including the 2000 and 2005 Reuions in Fulda, GE.
