You might even volunteer for one of the Army&#39;s SFABs (Security Force Assistance Brigades) that are being stood up to deploy on as an advisory basis to Foreign militaries. It used to be guaranteed that they would deploy at some point, but I&#39;m not sure of their deployment cycles now- but the Army still has these missions in CENTCOM &amp; AFRICOM, and I believe eventually each Combatant Command will have an SFAB assigned to support them. Don&#39;t volunteer to put yourself in harm&#39;s way unnecessarily, only when the nation call on you and your unit to serve. The only Soldiers I know that seek deployments into the hot zone are 1. Young Soldiers.. 2. Combat Patches/Badge chasers and 3. Soldiers that like the thrill of potentially being blown up or shot........... I was a 19 year old PFC on my first deployment to iraq with 1st bn 160th soar. We rotated guys in/out constantly, and to the best of my knowledge still are. The unit has been deployed continuously since october 2001.
