FYI: if you ask what "tear drop" is, you're admitting you didn't press the attached link and/or this topic is out of your lane.

Geneticist? Not much for that particular muscle. But there's no doubt that genetics plays a crucial part it how it will develop. I'm tall with long femurs, and my genetics give me a very long vastus medialis, but not a very well pronounced or full one.
I'd choose leg extensions over front squat since it better isolates the VM, and may lessen the aggravation of other joints. Although either will work well.

Leg extensions. I've been working on mine since the beginning of the year and its starting to show promise. Although my genetics did not give me the best shape. Its like a stretched version of the normal VM.

If you're serious about bodybuilding and competing, I'd recommend getting a coach (NOT a personal trainer). My wife trains with Don Long's team and loves the personal touch of having someone develop nutritional/workout guidelines and targets for her. We pay about $200 a month, but her coach puts in work for her--developing training regimens, touch-up exercises, keeping up to date with regular photos, and consulting with a licensed dietician (medical doctor, not the nutritionist homeopathic frou-frou type) when it comes to her macros.
As far as the teardrop, a lot of the males in her team talk about that a lot--half of it's genetics, the other half is a metric sh*tload of leg extensions, squats, and stair-climbers. Helps with glutes too. Hope that helped, good luck.
