A large enough urine sample is taken that the same sample is used to retest when there is a positive result.
Second, people get tested over and over. The military mandates certain percentage of a unit get tested routinely. There is a random name generator that picks individuals to test. Some people get tagged every test and some almost never get tested.
Third, the person at the top said they were given a drug, meaning they were either caught or admitted taking something.

There's a lot more to all of those stories Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 21 at 2020 11:39 AM 2020-07-21T11:39:13-04:00 2020-07-21T11:39:13-04:00 SFC Michael Hasbun 6123290

Barracks lawyers still telling sea stories I see... If you do, then it ends there. If you don't, the results are sent back to your unit, and CID is automatically informed. They start a formal investigation.

A unit CAN flag you for a "Commander's Investigation" or "Law Enforcement Investigation" if there is any doubt as to a UA. However, any doubt would likely stay at the regional testing facility; they wouldn't tell a unit they didn't know for sure. Testing facilities send back either "Clear" or "Positive Result".

My guess is the "friend" is using the UA as a cover story for being booted for something totally unrelated.
