Not a straightforward answer. MCO 6600.3B states, "Individual Unit Commanders are responsible for the overall dental health of personnel assigned to their units and shall ensure that unit dental readiness is at or above 95 percent", but never specifically states if braces or "orthodontic appliances" are a no go. The directive contains a list of references that you need to dig into deeper. It appears, according to BUMEDINST 6600.18A (referenced in the MCO), that an individual with braces can maintain a Dental Readiness Class 2 (DRC2) - Under Prosthodontics: "Restoration of teeth or edentulous areas with prosthetic restorations or appliances (fixed or removable), but not on an immediate basis"

So if the dentist said it was a medical necessity, I don't see why not, though the Marine would likely, have to get it signed off by his or her command first.

I saw quite a few Marines end up with braces while I was in. It was generally SNCOs who were careerists though. I also saw a lot of folks getting permanents as well. I also know of a few folks who were released at Boot Camp because their teeth and gums were so bad the Navy Dentists basically said it would take too much to fix their situation.

Yes, you can have braces in any service, but you are non deployable for the entire time you have them

I can't tell if the question is for you or one your Marines, but, Yes you can if prescribed by a Medical Officer. You/him/her would risk being tagged non deployable.
Some may consider that a blessing or a curse.
