Branch Patches on left shoulder of ACU

In recent months, I have observed certain troops wearing a patch on their left shoulders that displays their branch, specifically "MP" or "CBRN." Is this just occurring on FT Bragg? What are your thoughts on branch patches? Where in the regulations does it state this is authorized? Would you like to see this practice go Army-wide, where all Soldiers get to wear a branch patch?

School house TRADOC units sometimes have patches which look very similar to their branch image. Perhaps you are seeing soldiers in transit or on TDY from those units?

I found these two patches for CBRN and MP School house. Somebody assigned there can probably fill us in on if/when they are used.

So you're talking about the brassard and not an actual patch?

I am currently in Camp Stanley and all the Chemical personal and Mp wear them.

In Korea our CBRN wore their patches as did the MPs at all my duty stations. MPs and CBRN are not wearing "branch" patches. They are wearing patches that signify their "duty" such as CBRN operations and MP operations.

I think we should go back to wearing branch insignia on the collar of the uniform. I was not in while that was in practice, but I think it is a great way to find common ground among fellow Soldiers.
I am a Forward Observer in a light infantry battalion and I am very proud of my MOS. I love my infantry brothers, but it is nice to run across other FiSTers and be able to share stories with guys that have similar experiences.
