Aside from the ammo background checks, the California proposal also would require felons to relinquish weapons, and ensure that data is shared with the federal firearms database on residents who are prohibited from owning guns.
Gun control advocates welcomed California's proposal, pointing to the lack of political will at the federal level. Newsom made his announcement in San Francisco near the site of a 1993 gun massacre that helped spur federal restrictions on assault weapons."Congress has failed to pass even the most basic laws to help keep guns out of dangerous hands and save lives," said Kate Folmar, spokeswoman for Everytown for Gun Safety, a group founded by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "The states have and will continue to take action to reduce gun violence despite the gridlock in Washington." Polls have shown California voters are generally more supportive of restricting access to guns than voters in other states.

Perhaps the Lt. Gov. could relinquish his armed security detail. After all, he and his fellow Democrats want the average citizen unable to be able to practice their shooting skills in order to defend themselves, their family, and others. Just because he's an elected official does not mean he gets special exemptions to their legal antics.

"the California proposal also would require felons to relinquish weapons" Best news that won't happen...EVER. I take it ol dude didn't really think this one through. Turn in high capacity magazines...yeah ok. Get someone to buy a tom of ammo online...yup. Effective gun control...yeah..NOPE.

SSG Warren Swan Federal law prohibits convicted felons from owning a firearm... Why do felons in CA have firearms?

LTC (Join to see) - Sure have all the felons turn in all their weapons, and arrest them on sight turning it in. Yep makes sense to me

Thanks, Master Chief. Being a native born but former Californian I have lived the social entropy that afflicts CA. Sadly, most of my family remains behind to live through the social experiment.
