California Banned the Confederate Flag

Looks like the Gov. of California has banned the Confederate flag:

"Starting next year, the Confederate flag will no longer be available for sale or on display at government agencies in California. Governor Jerry Brown has signed a new law that prohibits selling or displaying items that have the flag on it."

This article is misleading. The Confederate Flag wasn't banned... it just won't be sold at Government agencies. I think the Governor has the right to decide what to sell at "Government Stores" -- I'm actually not sure why they would be selling any flag other than the American or State flag to begin with.

If everything that offends someone is banned, there would be nothing left.

I do find it ironic that a Democrat governor feels it necessary to ban the symbol of the Confederacy, yet belongs to the political party that gave birth to the KKK, supported slavery, and voted against the Equal Rights Amendment.

The Democrat Party offends me... I demand it be banned. :-)

Stories like this make me so happy I don't write for a click-bait happy magazine.

I appreciate that the internet makes the world smaller and we can all stay better informed about what's happening in the world, but I wish more of the media organizations giving us that information would take their responsibilities seriously.

I suppose I still find myself wondering what the big deal is about the Confederate flag in the first place, no matter which side of the issue a person is on.

Then again, I suppose that's another thread altogether.

As for displaying this controversial Confederate flag. Symbolic expression" is a phrase often used to describe expression that is mixed with elements of conduct. The Supreme Court has made clear in a series of cases that symbolic expression (or expressive conduct) may be protected by the First Amendment.

Many of CA's departments and buildings have also banned the display of the U.S. flag as well. Remember that.

The article is misleading and the subsequent arguments are a fine example of the term I have coined Politically Generated BS (PGBS)

The ability of both sides to conveniently spin the facts to make the end result favorable to their side is udderly amazing.

Facts are facts. It does no one any service to ignore them or change the meaning of them to suit yourselves.

Can't we just let CA move off and form their own socialist country already? The post is a bit off, but California does seem to be in their own world, for example: They fought against Arizona's SB1070 which let us detain illegals if they are stopped for a legitimate reason, yet what is the first thing you see when you drive into CA from another state? Yea, a checkpoint to look for illegals. I don't get it.

I'm sure you can still purchase one on Amazon, under the customers also purchased section you'll find the Nazi flag and picture of Ho Chi Minh. this is the flag of an enemy we defeated long ago. Their ideology was based on slave labor. Once you make that connection... Cause I understand people think of the Dukes of Hazard and Ol' Miss, the reality is it was flown by the confederate Army and states that seceded from the US to maintain their oppression of African Americans. Yet citizens still want to fly this banner? I don't understand what it can be symbolic of other than its original intended representation. When I see the confederate flag next to the Nazi flag durring grand wizard induction ceremonies of the KKK on the history channel, then I see it waving from a pick up truck I get a confused. It's the symbol of the confederate states of America and their ideologies, it's the symbol of white power organizations rooted in Nazi ideology and a symbol of the KKK who the FBI has deamed a freakin terrorist organization! Or do I got it twisted? And people want to wave it around as some form of free speech? As a military member I'm deeply offended that citizens want to openly display the banner of a defeated enemy. As a citizen I'm disturbed that individuals want to proliferate hatred and invoke the fears of the past by displaying this flag. I think they misunderstand the power of symbols.
