California Law just passed that let's students pick what sex bathroom they want to use and sports team. Is this coming to the Military?

Personally SSG Burns, I don't think this is coming to the military, SM are adults and not children, The bulling that takes place in these schools may be the reason, but SM are all adults and not children. How ever in the civilian sector I have seen unisex bathrooms where bot male and females use the same bathroom at the same time. I don't think unisex bathroom will be allowed in the military because the bathrooms in the military barracks contain showers and that is not the same.

I don't think it will happen for some time. However this does leave the door open for this question..

"How will the military (any branch) handle someone who is transgender and wishes to join?". Or has this issue already been faced?

Sure. Why not? IMO, it all boils down to treating your seniors, peers and subordinates alike regardless of sexual orientation, skin pigmentation, moral, sacred or secular beliefs. Treat each other professionally in the work and public environment, and don't act much different in the private environments if you have that type of relationship. Know your place, and have the discipline to adapt to the various situations you may find yourself in. Above all, professionalism and respect at all times. I also agree with CSM Maynard, as I'm sure others have expressed, that a uniform standard across genders needs to be addressed for fitness. No offense intended to any female or otherwise here, but physical demands of combat are rigorous, and yes, females adapt much differently than males; but just because of gender, roles in combat may not fluctuate at times. A female/male job may eventually be one and the same. Even a fat body like me can see that and recognize a need for fair and equitable treatment across the board, and a standard needs to be set.

In such a male dominated line of work I really don't see how this could become that big of an issue anyway. But no, I don't really see it happening in the military and I feel like it would be stupid anyway. Although many younger soldiers act like children, the only alternative I see is removing gender signs from the doors and just having the same type of co-ed bathrooms that most colleges do. 17-22 year olds manage to do it. Why are 18-45+ incapable? Just make one really big locker room/bathroom.

I say go big or go homw and adopt the "Starship Troopers" or BSG method of latrine use......If they want us to be all 100% equal and get rid of gender lines, so be it. But don't bitch about the 2nd or 3rd order effects that you did not care to think through......

I dunno...I remember taking a dump on one of the Army's fine, wartime, $hitters the first time we went to Iraq. It was a 4 seater.....big pit, rough wood for the feet, two 2x6 pieces running about 10 ft long. The two 2x6's were spaced about 8 inches apart. No separation between "facilities", no walls, no curtains. We did have a berm...sorta between us and the rest of the world. And two very attentive young female soldiers sitting on their respective "pots" doing their thing..... I had to go, but tried for a few moments to give the soldiers their privacy until one of them said "we got all day."...Damn. So....I did my business. One of the soldiers even handed me a roll of TP (hadn't seen THAT in a few weeks).
